Lesson 10 The U.K. 教案
Teaching Objectives:
Knowledge Objectives:
1. Students will learn about the United Kingdom, its geography, culture and history.
2. Students will learn new words and phrases related to the topic of the United Kingdom.
Ability Objectives:
1. Students will be able to describe the places, landmarks and traditions of the United Kingdom.
2. Students will be able to ask and answer questions related to the topic of the United Kingdom.
Emotional Objectives:
1. Students will foster an appreciation for the culture and history of the United Kingdom.
2. Students will develop curiosity and a sense of inquiry about the world around them.
Teaching Content:
1. Geography of the United Kingdom: location, size, borders
2. Landmarks and places of the United Kingdom: Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, Big Ben, Stonehenge, Loch Ness
3. Symbols and traditions of the United Kingdom: the Union Jack, fish and chips, tea, red phone boxes, Royal Family
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1: Warm-up activity (5 minutes)
Teacher will start the class by asking students if they know any countries in Europe. Students will share their ideas and the teacher will introduce the United Kingdom as
a country in Europe.
Step 2: Vocabulary introduction (15 minutes)
Teacher will present new vocabulary to students using flashcards, pictures, and real objects. Here are some examples:
- Buckingham Palace (Show a picture of Buckingham Palace)
- The Tower of London (Show a picture of the Tower of London)
- Big Ben (Show a picture of Big Ben)
- Stonehenge (Show a picture of Stonehenge)
- Loch Ness (Show a picture of Loch Ness)
- The Union Jack (Show a picture of the Union Jack)
- Fish and chips (Show a picture of fish and chips)
- Tea (Bring a tea pot and cups)
- Red phone boxes (Show a picture of a red phone box)
- The Royal Family (Show a picture of the Queen or the Royal Family)
Teacher will ask students to repeat the new vocabulary and try to pronounce them correctly.
Step 3: Reading comprehension (20 minutes)
Teacher will distribute a reading passage about the United Kingdom to students. Students will read the text silently and then the teacher will explain any difficult words or phrases.
After that, the teacher will ask some comprehension questions to ensure that students have understood the text. For instance:
- Where is the United Kingdom located?
- What are the landmarks of the United Kingdom?
- What are the symbols and traditions of the United Kingdom?
Step 4: Group work (20 minutes)
Teacher will divide students into groups of four or five. Each group will be given a set of questions related to the United Kingdom. Students will discuss the questions and then present their answers in front of the class. Here are some sample questions:
- What is the capital of the United Kingdom?
- What is the name of the river that flows through London?
- Which members of the Royal Family do you know?
- What is Stonehenge and where is it located?
- What is the most famous Scottish monster?
Step 5: Role play activity (20 minutes)
Teacher will ask students to work in pairs, pretending that they are tourists visiting the United Kingdom for the first time. One student will be a tourist and the other will be a tour guide. The tour guide will show the tourist around a famous landmark or place in the United Kingdom, and the tourist will ask questions about it.
Step 6: Conclusion and feedback (5 minutes)
Teacher will summarize the lesson by asking students what they have learned about the United Kingdom. Students will give their feedback on the lesson and ask any questions they have regarding the topic.
