When young people get their first real jobs, they may face a lot of new, confusing situations. They may find that everything is different from the way things were at school. It is also possible that they will feel unfortable in both professional and social situations. Eventually, they realize that university classes can’t be the only preparation for all of the different situations that arise in the working world.
Perhaps the best way to learn how to behave in the working world is to identify a worker you admire and observe his behavior. In doing so, you will be able to see what it is that you admire in this person. For example, you will observe how he acts in a crisis. Perhaps even more importantly, you will be able to see what his approach to everyday situations is.
While you are observing your colleague, you should be asking yourself whether his behavior is like yours and how you can learn from his responses to a variety of situations. By watching and learning from a model, you will probably begin to identify and adopt good working habits.
答案: 6~10.BBABB 11~15.CACCB 16~ACB
第二部分阅读理解(共两节, 满分40分)
第一节(共15小题; 每小题2分, 满分30分)
阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中, 选出最佳选项。
Do you suppose Darwin, one of the greatest scientists of all times, really did fools’
experiments?Or did he do experiments that were so simple and basic that other people just thought they were foolish?
Sometimes, people think they already know the answer to a question or the solution to a problem. Sometimes, they really do know an answer or a solution, but without thinking they are important.
Charles Darwin didn’t settle for(满足于)just thinking he knew something. And, he believed all things could be important however simple they seemed to be.
Suppose you drop sheets of paper that are of exactly the same size and shape. If you drop them at the same time in the same place, they will fall in the same way. Now make one of the sheets of paper into a tight little ball and let it drop along with the other sheets. What happens? You have done an experiment that is so simple that you might think it couldn’t be worth anything.
But this simple experiment is important. It explains part of our present day understandings of physics, ideas that were worked out long ago by Galileo and Newton. And these understandings set aside some of ancient Greek physics.
Scientists sometime stop to look at very simple things and to think very hard about them. Even the simplest idea, which we might think is foolish, can shake the foundations of science.

When I saw a big handmade signboard“Wele Yu Xin”at the airport, I knew I had found a caring family at the other side of the world—the United States.
My host mom had already decorated(装饰)my room for me. There was a doll on one side of the room, and a bookcase full of books on the other—they had heard I loved reading. Mom had also prepared a keyboard for me, since she knew that I played the piano.
My life in the family did not go so well at first. Because I am the only child in my family in China, I was not used to having two younger kids—Zachary and Grace—running around me yelling(大喊大叫)all the time.
Mom had a serious talk with me about this problem on a Sunday afternoon. She told me, “You can’t just e home from school everyday, go to your room and do your homewo rk. You need to be a part of this family. You need to play with my kids for at least an hour. ”This rule was very annoying at first. I did not have much experience playing with children.
However, the more time I spent with the kids, the more I grew to love them. We played games and read books together. I even taught them Chinese. Thanks to mom’s rule, I began to feel like I was really part of the family.
Mom also inspired me to live a healthier life. She got up early every morning to go running. On weekends, she took the whole family to visit parks or go camping.
I did not like sports much when I was back home, but now I love to join all kinds of sports. I am healthier and more confident too.
With my American family, I found joy and laughter. I learned to live with energy and optimism(乐观), thanks to the care and responsibility of my loving American parents.

The most exciting kind of education is also the most personal. Nothing can exceed the joy of discovering for yourself something that is important to you!It may be an idea or a bit of information you e across by accident or a sudden understanding, fitting together pieces of information or working through a problem. Such personal encounters are the“payoff”in education. A teacher may direct you to learning and even encourage you in it, but no teacher can make the excitement or the joy happen. That’s up to you.
A research paper, assigned in a course and perhaps checked at various stages by an instructor, leads you beyond classrooms, beyond the texts for classes and into a process where the joy of discovery and learning can e to you many times. Preparing the research paper is an active and individual process, and an ideal learning process. It provides a structure within which you can make exciting discoveries, of knowledge and of self, which are basic to education. The research paper also gives you a chance to individualize a school assignment, to suit a piece of work to your own interests and abilities and to show others what you can do. Writing a research paper is more than a classroom exercise. It is an experience in searching out, understanding and synthesizing, which forms the basis of many skills applicable to both academic and nonacademic tasks. It is, in the fullest sense, a discovery, an education. So, to produce a good research paper is both a useful and a thoroughly satisfying experience!
To some, the thought of having to write an assigned number of pages, often more than ever produced before, is disconcerting. To others, the very idea of having to work independently is threatening. But there is no need to approach paper assignment with anxiety, and nobody should view the research paper as an obstacle to overe. Though there were many difficulties, Rowling continued her writing, particularly fantasy stories. But it wasn’t until 1990 that she first came up with the idea about Harry Potter. As she recalled(回忆), it was on a long train journey from London to Manchester that“the idea of Harry Potter imply fell into my head. To my great disappointment, I didn’t have a pen with me, and I was too shy to ask anybody if I could borrow one. I think, now, that this was probably a good thing, because I simply sat and thought, for four(delayed train)hours, and all the details came up in my brain, and this thin, black-haired, be-spectacled(戴眼镜的)boy who didn’t know he was a wizard became more and more real to me. ”
That same year, her mother died after a ten-year fight with serious diseases, which deeply affected her writing. She went on to marry and had a daughter, but separated from her husband shortly afterwards.
During this time, Rowling was diagnosed with depression(诊断患有抑郁症). Unemployed, she finished her first novel in area cafés, where she could get her daughter to fall asleep. After being refused by 12 publishing houses, the first Harry Potter novel was sold to a small British publishing house.

How to Bee a Top Student
Successful students use different techniques(技巧)to study, which brings them more success. 36Here are the four techniques almost all top-performing students use.
They are regular. Almost all successful students study regularly, because they know“what you give is what you get”. If you put in regular hours of studying, then you will learn more and get better grades. 37This will help you to study regularly.
They have clear goals. All top-performing students have definite, specific goals. 38They motivate(激发)you and drive you to study more. But make sure that you do not get carried away. Set realistic goals which can challenge(挑战)you, but do not seem impossible or too difficult to achieve.
They study without strain(压力). Successful students study a lot. But they study without putting strain on themselves. Most students make the mistake of studying too hard or studying continuously for a long time. 39Studying should be done in a balanced manner. Take a break for a few minutes, after studying for 30 or 45 minutes. Relax, walk around your room or house, or drink some water and return to studying. Such short breaks will refresh your brain and you will learn more.
40Studying is not something you do just because your parents ask you to do it. It’s actually very important for you. Studying gives you knowledge and skills that will remain with you for the rest of your life. It gives you the ability to get a job and earn money. And successful students recognize the value of studying well.
A. This creates tension and actually slows down learning and memory.
B. But to score grade A in English, you should make well-planned efforts.
C. Set aside some hours, each day or each week, for studying.
