AThe Yaos (瑶族人) live in mountain communities scattered over 130 counties in five southern China provinces and one autonomous region. About 70 percent of them live in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and the rest live in Hunan, Yunnan, Guangdong, Guizhou and Jiangxi provinces.Half of the Yaos speak the Yao language, which belongs to the Chinese-Tibetan language family; others use the Miao or Dong languages. As a result of close contact with the Han and Zhuang cultures, many Yaos also have learned to speak Chinese or Zhuang. Before 1949, the Yaos did not have a written language. Ancient Yaos kept records of important affairs by carving notches(凹口) on wood or bamboo slips. Later they used Chinese characters. Hand-written copies of words of songs are on display in the Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County in Guangxi. They are believed to be relics of the Ming Dynasty. Ancient stone tablets engraved(雕刻) with Chinese characters can be found in a lot of Yao communities.During the Ming and Qing dynasties, cattle and iron tools spread among the Yaos in Guangxi and Guangdong. They dug ditches and built troughs(水槽) to draw water from springs for daily use and irrigation. Sideline occupations (副业) such as hunting, collecting medicinal herbs, making charcoal (木炭) and weaving were pursued side by side with agriculture. The Yaos practiced an interesting form of cooperation called “singing-while-digging”. This can still be seen in Guangxi today. At times of spring ploughing,20 to 30 households(住户) work together for one household after another until all their fields are ploughed and sown. While the group is working, a young man stands out in the fields, beating a drum and leading the singing. Everyone sings after him.1.Where do most Yaos live now?A. In Hunan, Yunnan, Guangdong, Guizhou and Jiangxi provinces.B. In the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.C. In the southwestern part of China.D. In nearly all the provinces across China.答案:B细节理解题。

ASituated in Huaxi District, Guiyang, Zhenshan Ethnic Culture Village is a world of stone, where many things like door frames and roads are made of stone. Buyi men and women in their best clothes sing and dance at the village entrance as they greet visitors and invite them to join the villagers in making cake flour with rice. The village was first built during the Ming Dynasty, with a history of more than 400 years. Three sides of the village are surrounded by water. It is built against the mountains according to the local geological conditions. There are about 120 families and three fourths of them are Buyi nationality and one fourth are Miao people. On January 10th every lunar year, the villagers hold traditional dancing activities to celebrate the New Year. Buyi and Miao villagers in their best costumes sing and dance to the melodies from the Lusheng (芦笙) and the bamboo flutes to celebrate their own traditional festival. Legends said once some robbers captured the Buyi forefather in the village. The villagers failed to rescue him by themselves and asked the local Miao people for help. The Miao people played the Lusheng and sang Miao songs to communicate with him and the robbers couldn't understand them. With the help of the Miao people, the forefather was rescued. Since then, the local Buyi people have formed the custom of singing and dancing to appreciate the help from the Miao. People sing and dance for three days for the festival each year.Besides this, Zhenshan villagers also celebrate the traditional “Siyueba” Festival (April 8th Festival) and the “Qiyueban”Festival (the Ghost Festival). Now, these festivals have become joyous days celebrated by Miao, Buyi, Dong, Zhuang, Shui, Gelao, and even the Han people. In Zhenshan, some young people take advantage of the festivals to make friends and choose their future husbands or wives. Girls usually make embroideries (刺绣) and give them as gifts to their lovers.语篇解读:本文是一篇记叙文。

It was raining, and my dad told me that I had to make five free throws (投球) one after another without a break before I could go home. I was ten years old at that time. So I shot (投球) until I indeed made five free throws. Pretty soon the number of free throws increased until I got to high school and I had to make seventy-five before I could leave the gym.I used to get mad when I reached the required amount and I would miss the next one, but my dad made me start over, saying that I missed it on purpose. So in high school I would usually get to 120 before I stopped. My highest ever was 175. I never expected this would ever bring me some benefit, but one game really changed my idea. Our school team was playing basketball match with Royal High School, and we lost the game by twenty points a week earlier, so this game was all about revenge (报仇). With two minutes left in the game, my team was up by six and their coach told them to foul (犯规). Our coach immediately put forward a perfect plan —giving the ball to me every time. And every time my teammates gave me the ball, the other team would foul me. Then I went to the free throw line and made two free throws successfully. I ended up going ten-for-ten that game all in the last two minutes. The final score was 57-50 and we won.1. He ran to the scene with his first aid kit and found an old lady sitting at the bus stop. When boarding (上车) the bus, the old lady painfully hurt her left leg, which was bleeding. He introduced himself, and asked some basic first aid questions to get a general picture of her health. Then he put his jacket on the floor, using the lady’s coat as a pillow, a nd gently laid her down so he could raise her legs and apply some bandages. Bryan said, “At first I was a bit worried about remembering to do all the right things. I made sure she was as comfortable as possible.” When he had nearly finished, he told the la dy that she was his first one. The lady said he was doing a great job.Just a week later, Brian got a second call-out to help another lady at a bus stop.Having used his new skills twice within a short time, Brian has decided to sign up as a Red Cross first aid volunteer. For men, the preferred cut is short on the sides and back but longer on top. For women, the company prefers a bob with a longer fringe (刘海) that can be swept to one side. This unusual request is its effort to help the country save energy. The spokeswoman for the Tokyo-based construction firm Maeda Corporation Chizuru Inoue explained,“Our company is eager to protect the environment and we encourage our s taff to carry out many environment-friendly actions.”She added, “We are not sure of the data yet, but we believe if people have short hair, they do not need to use their hair driers for so long and they will use less water. If all our employees do this, then we may save a lot of power.” Some staff are confused about which style they must have and have been asking which salons (美容院) give the best cut.The energy-saving move is part of a national campaign to reduce energy consumption (消耗) following the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Japan has been struggling to produce enough electricity since the tsunami ended production at the Fukushima plants. The disaster resulted in a review of the country’s energy policy that now means less than a quarter of its remaining nuclear plants are in use. The government has talked about a move away from nuclear energy towards more sustainable(能持续的) technologies. Many government departments have taken measures to save power, including a reduced use of air conditioning in offices and schools. Many employees cannot turn down the air conditioner below 27 degrees in the hottest summer months.8. What would be the best title for the text?A. Sustainable power is welcome in JapanB. Nuclear disaster brings bad resultsC. Short hairstyles may help save energyD. Japan is lacking in energyDIt turns out that nodding off (睡觉) in class may not be a bad idea, as a new study has shown that going to sleep shortly after learning new materials is the best way to remember them.According to US lead author Jessica Payne, a psychologist at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, nodding off after learning something new is like “telling” the sleeping brain what to remember. Along withcolleagues, she studied 207 students who slept for at least six hours per night. Students were randomly (随机地) assigned to study something declarative (陈述的) at 9 am or 9 pm, and returned for testing 30 minutes, 12 hours or 24 hours later.Declarative memory refers to the ability to consciously (有意识地) remember facts and events, and can be divided into memory for events and memory for facts about the world. People use both types of memory every day — remembering where they parked today or learning how a colleague prefers to be called. At the 12-hour retest, memory was better following a night of sleep compared to a day of wakefulness (不眠). At the 24-hour retest, with all students having received both a full night of sleep and a full day of wakefulness, students’ memories were greater when sleep happened sho rtly after learning rather than following a full day of wakefulness.“Our study confirms that sleeping directly after learning something new is beneficial for memory. What’s special for this study is that we have shown sleep’s influence on declarative memory,” Payne said. “Since we found that sleeping soon after learning benefited both types of memory, this means that it would be a good thing to go over any information you need to remember before going to bed. In some sense, you may be telling the sleeping brain what to consolidate (巩固).”12. What’s the main idea of the text?A. How to improve one’s memory is a difficult problem.B. Nodding off after learning something new helps remember it.C. Students should nod off in class after they learn new materials.D. The best way to remember new materials is to nod off in class.13. We can learn about the study that .A. Jessica Payne and her colleagues were testedB. 207 students were eager to take the testC. it tested students studying something declarativeD. people’s memory can be divided into two types14. Paragraph 4 mainly tells us .A. students’ memories are the best if they sleep for 12 hours each dayB. sleeping for 24 hours contributes to improving students’ memoriesC. a full day of wakefulness can make students’ memories improved greatlyD. students’ memories are better when sleep happens shortly after learning15. What suggestion does Payne give in the last paragraph?A. The more you sleep, the more you remember.B. Go over what you want to remember before going to bed.C. Teachers should allow their students to sleep in class.D. If you want to improve your memory, you should sleep.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

AThe Yaos (瑶族人 ) live in mountain munities scattered over 130 counties in five southern China provinces and one autonomous region. About 70 percent of them live in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and the rest live in Hunan, Yunnan, Guangdong, Guizhou and Jiangxi provinces.Half of the Yaos speak the Yao language, which belongs to the Chinese- Tibetan language family; others use the Miao or Dong languages. As a result of close contact with the Han and Zhuang cultures, many Yaos also have learned to speak Chinese or Zhuang. Before 1949, the Yaos did not have a written language. Ancient Yaos kept records of important affairs by carving notches(凹口 )on wood or bamboo slips. Later they used Chinese characters. Hand- written copies of words of songs are on display in the Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County in Guangxi. They are believed to be relics of the Ming Dynasty. Ancient stone tablets engraved(雕琢 ) with Chinese characters can be found in a lot of Yao munities.During the Ming and Qing dynasties, cattle and iron tools spread among the Yaos in Guangxiand Guangdong. They dug ditches and built troughs( 水槽 ) to draw water from springs for daily use and irrigation. Sideline occupations (副业 ) such as hunting, collecting medicinal herbs, making charcoal (木炭 ) and weaving were pursued side by side with agriculture. The Yaos practiced an interesting form of cooperation called “ singing- while- digging ” . This can still be seen in Guangxi today. At times of spring ploughing,20 to 30 households( 住户 ) work together for one household after another until all their fields are ploughed and sown. While the group is working, a young man stands out in the fields, beating a drum and leading the singing. Everyone sings after him.1.Where do most Yaos live now?A. Remote Area First AidCThirteen-year-old Rachel Griffin was looking forward to the annual (年度的) dinner dance at Readington Middle School in New Jersey. At least, she was expecting it until she got the news that the dress she had bought would not be appropriate. It doesn’t have straps (肩带). “My dress is modest. It’s not revealing whatsoever,” Rachel said. However, Rachel’s principal (校长) doesn’t agree. Ms. Moffatt has put the word out recently that girls’ dresses must have straps or sleeves. If not, they won’t be able to attend the dance.“Everyone is angry. We’ve already bought our dresses,” Claudi ne Nijenhuis said. “She could have told us before the spring break.” But Claudine’s mother thinks that is not the point. “I’m objecting to the fact that the school can change the rules without asking parents for opinions, so I feel a little disappointed,” she said. Ms. Nijenhuis also objected to the principal’s stated reason for the policy. “Ms. Moffat has stated that such dresses distract boys and are not appropriate for young girls. Her comment about distraction to boys is particularly wrong, because it suggests that boys are not able to control their behavior when in the presence of girls wearing strapless dresses.”Ms. Moffatt had not commented publicly on the dress issue as of Tuesday night. But her policy has many teachers’ support. Some parents are also publicly supporting her. “I don’t think it’s about a dress code,” parent Phillip Ritter said. “It’s about respecting authority.”Ms. Nijenhuis disagrees. “As a parent, Ms. Moffat is free to control the dress of her children,” she said. “But as a principal of a public school, she should not give a rule what our children may or may not wear.”Late Tuesday, Ms. Moffat said she would reconsider the rule and announce her decision next month. Rachel hopes the principal will change her mind. “I don’t want to wa ste my money, just because I bought a dress that doesn’t have straps.”53. What trouble does Rachel meet?A. Here’s how: Clench your right fist before taking in new information that you want to remember. Then clench your left fist when you want to remember it later. This strange trick may work because clenching your hands activates the side of the brain that handles memory. For example, in right-handed people, the left side of the brain is primarily responsible for storing information while the right side of the brain is responsible for recalling memory. To test this idea, researchers led by Ruth Propper from Montclair State University studied 50 right-handed college students. Most of them were girls. They were given a list of 36 words to remember. They were also given a small pink ball to clench. One group clenched the balls ten times with their right hands before memorizing the words. Then they did the same with their left hands before writing down as many words as they could remember. Another group performed the same task but reversed (颠倒) the order of the cl ench they made. A third group didn’t clench the balls at all but held them gently in hands each time. The group that started with the right hand performed the best on the memory test. “The findings suggest that some simple body movements can improve memory,” Propper said in a statement describing the results, which were published in the online science journal PLoS One.Participants recalled(回忆) an average of ten words if they clenched their right hand for storing information and their left hand for recalling information. People in the group that used the opposite clenching pattern recalled an average of six words. “But more work is needed to figure out whether this technique will actually be useful,” Propper said.57.
