Bees play a vital role in the world.Unfortunately, bees are dying by the second.
The main purpose of bees is to make honey.Honey, shockingly, does not exist for human consumption; it is essential to the insects.Honeybees store honey in their hives (蜂箱)in order for the bees to have energy for their flight muscles and for heating the hives during the winter period. They collect pollen (花粉)which supplies protein for young bees to grow.
According to National Honey Board, the increased production and quality of agricultural crops as a result of honeybee pollination are valued at more than $ 14.6 billion per year. These insects are responsible for over 70 of the fruits and vegetables we eat today, including apples, grapes, coffee, beans, and broccoli.

If our kids don't fall, they don't learn to get up.I still remember the day in high school that my mom forgot to pick me up from school.I'm the oldest of four children, and no doubt she'd had a long day with the other kids and it'd slipped her mind. After waiting at school for an hour,I walked the three miles home, and when I got to my house,I shut our front door with anger, stormed into the kitchen and screamed in my mom's face that she'd forgotten me.
Later that night,my dad told me I no longer had a ride to school the next day.I figured my mom would still take me,but when the morning came, she refused. It was midterm, and as a straight-A student ready to start college applications, being late wasn't an option. In my mind, missing these tests would have been the end of my academic career.I begged my mom.I told her she was ruining my future and everything I'd worked for.But she held her ground, and that day,I walked to school. And I missed my tests.

(2017·河北石家庄高三复习教学质量检测(二))It's cold and dark outside, and your bed is so warm and comfortable.Going for a run seems like such a bad idea. But before you hide your running shoes, it might be worth giving that crazy idea ago.
According to The Huffington Post, an outdoor run in winter, as opposed to one on a treadmill (跑步机), burns more calories because the body is working hard to regulate (调节) its core temperature.Furthermore, research shows that race times are faster in cold weather than in warmer temperatures-and quicker runs burn more calories.Similarly, cold weather also makes the heart work harder to distribute blood through the body, making that vital muscle even stronger.

(2017·辽宁省部分重点高中第三次联考)Those who claim bananas are fattening argue that bananas cause the body to make lots of insulin (胰岛素), and insulin causes fat growth.
How much insulin we produce is related to how fast food becomes sugar in our bloodstream. How can you know if food makes a lot of sugar quickly? The glycemic index(血糖指数), or GI rating tells us.Foods with GI scores above 75 a re considered highGI foods, leading to faster sugar development.Bananas have a GI of 62, which is considered low.
Weight loss can be a struggle for anyone, but it is especially hard for diabetics (糖尿病患者).A study looked at how the starch from unripe bananas affected the weight of a group of obese diabetics. After four weeks of a diet high in bananas, diabetics lost significantly more weight than on a control diet. They also saw improvements in insulin sensitivity from the banana diet.

Known as “The Man with the Golden Arm”, nearly every week for the past 60 years, James Harrison has donated blood plasma (血浆) from his right arm. The reasons can date back to a serious medical procedure.
“Whe n I was 14, I had a chest operation,” recalls Harrison, who is now aged 80. “My father said I had received 13 units of blood and my life had been saved by unknown people. So I said when I'm old enough, I'll become a blood donor.”
Soon after Harrison became a donor, doctors called him in. His blood, they said, could be the answer to a deadly problem.
“In Australia, up until about 1967, there were about thousands of babies dying each year because of the rhesus disease(恒河猴溶血病),” explains Jemma Falkenmire, of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.
