令人不快的“惊喜”Gloria的泰国的六周之旅非常开心,但这之中有个小小插曲让她不快,是什么呢?Todd: So, how was your trip to Thailand?Gloria: Oh, I spent about six weeks in Thailand and had a really, really great time.I spent three weeks in Northern Thailand and then three weeks on the beach in the southern part of Thailand but my last night I was packing up and I had a suitcase in the corner with the warm clothes from Northern Thailand and I saw something dark in the corner, and I'm thinking," Oh, it's just some clothes that fell out of my suitcase so I reach out to grab the clothes and something dark rose up and spread out and it was the weirdest feeling because at the same time I felt like a hand grab me from behind and yanked me out of the cabin and I didn't feel any fear until I was in the middle of the clearing and I screamed twice, and got everybody's attention, "What? What? What?" and I said "snake" and of course a few people started laughing, thinking, "Oh, well, this little bitty green, harmless snake" Ah, no big deal. So one of the little bitty Thai girls, walks into my cabin and she comes running out, "Ah, snake!" and so it was a black king cobra, which is the most poisonous snake in the world, and this is really kind of scary because my little brother had been killed by a snake and so it's frightening to me to think how close I came. After I left Thailand, two things happened: I found some photographs in which in the photographs that I took of my cabin you could see the snake crawling into my cabin and the other one is an e-mail from the owners of the resort that they found two more cobras underneath my bed.Todd: Wow, oh man! So normally do they have king cobras on that part of the island?Gloria: No, they don't. They say they may come in when they transport, the building, they're making a lot of new buildings so they brought in wood from Northern Thailand and maybe it came in there. Also the envirorment's being upset and they're chopping down a lot of trees, and they're finding more and more snakes that they didn't know were there.Todd: Wow, well, you're very lucky.Gloria: Yeah, I've been told that!。
谈论巴黎和东京的不同Rapheal曾在巴黎求学,听他讲讲巴黎和东京具体的不同吧。
Todd: OK, Raphael, you were saying you lived in Paris.Rapheal: Yes, I made my studies there.Todd: Paris is just an amazing city. Can you talk about Paris?Rapheal:Yes! Well, the biggest difference I noticed with Tokyo is the size. Like Paris is nice in that way, you can go anywhere by walking. It might take at maximum an hour and a half if you want to go to a very far place, but basically it's a city like made for walkers and you can really go anywhere just by walking, I mean it's quite pleasant cause you can see many, you know, nice buildings and places and things, just by walking.Todd: Wow, that's nice. How many people live in Paris?Rapheal:Including the suburbs it's 8 million now. Maybe getting increasing, but the inner city is only one million, so it's not overcrowded at all. Yeah!Todd: So, what else would you say is different about Tokyo and Paris?Rapheal:Well, specially, Paris you mean? The Transport is less expensive. This is important.Todd: YeahRapheal:Yeah, Yeah.Todd: It's more expensive?Rapheal:No, it's less, sorry, it's less expensive. Anyway, the, I was surprised because Tokyo is not that expensive finally, I mean you can, you can live in a very expensive way if you want but you can save a lot as well. It's really up to you. But in Paris is quite hard to save. I mean, the food is very expensive, and if you want to go out, just, a restaurant or anything, it's really more expensive than in Japan. A restaurant for example, like prices in Japan start from a thousand yen, maybe less, like 600 yen, and in France like the cheapest restaurant you can find is 15 Euro which is around 2000 YenTodd: Whoa! That is expensive.Rapheal:Yeah, it's more expensive, wherever you go it's more expensive if you wantto go out but on the contrary the cinema is really cheap, so so many people go to the cinema, I mean, the cinema is really, it's a part of Paris nightlife, like, people used to go to cinema once a week at least, almost everyone. Yeah, cause it's really cheap. A ticket is 1000 yen, maybe less.Todd: So, what about sports, like what kind of sports do you like to do?Rapheal:Yeah, anything. Anything, yeah! You have a lot of facilities, like gymnasium, swimming pools, clubs, yeah, you can practice a lot. Especially, I was a student so, I had this very easy student life because France has a lot of students, whatever it is, so they give you a bit of money, and you get discount on almost anything, so sport is specially favorized in Paris when you are a student, you canalmost like do whatever you want, as a sport almost free, sometimes, so, it's, you can do a lot of things. Actually, I did Aikido. I did swimming pool, squash, tennis, yeah, uh, basketball, yeah, a lot of things actually.Todd: Active guy. And what about the traffic if you want to drive in Paris?Rapheal:I never tested, because as I told you it's so nice to just walk, that, and I didn't own a car but it's quite tough for people living in the suburbs cause they need a car to come, the train system is not really good. It's not like, there's a lot of delay, trains and things like that, so if you live in the suburbs you need a car, and driving through Paris in the mornings or evening is really difficult, so I just didn't want to test, you know.。

I met the Duke of Edinburgh.Ian: Mm, who's that?Todd: He is the Queen's husband and I met him at Buckingham Palace.Ian: How did that happen?Todd: Well, it was because I received an award.Ian: What kind of an award?Todd: The award was called the Duke of Edinburgh Award and I completed the bronze award, the silver award, and the gold award, and if you complete all three, then you can go to Buckingham Palace and he gives you your award.Ian: The award is for what kind of job?Todd: OK, well it's for young people between the ages of, I think it's 14 to 21, but I'm not quite sure, and you have to do different challenges for each award. Now, for the gold award you had to do community service, and I visited an old man. I had to do a sport and I played badminton. You had to do an expedition, and we went hiking in the Breton Beacons in Wales for five days and you had to do a skill and I did driving and you had to do each one for a year.Ian: So what was it like getting the award?Todd: Um, it was exciting and disappointing at the same time because my friends and I, we were waiting at Buckingham Palace for quite a long time and we had all our best clothes on: our ties, our shirts, our trousers. We had very clean shoes. It was quite hot and we were waiting and we were waiting and in came the Duke of Edinburgh. and he gave us our award. He asked us maybe one question each and then he went, so we only actually met him for about five minutes.Ian: So it wasn't the most exciting time, meeting him a famous person.Todd: No, he was a very busy man, but you know, I shook his hand, and that was it, but it was nice to see Buckingham Palace and it was a good day out in London.Ian: Sounds like it.。

讲述童年记忆Lois已经25岁了,虽然对童年记忆有些模糊不清但仍记得零星,听他讲述零碎的记忆吧。
Todd: Lois, actually how old are you Lois?Lois: I'm 25.Todd: OK, 25, so, do you have any early childhood memories? What's the earliest thing you can remember from Childhood?Lois: Uh, my memories from my choldhood aren't very good. I can't remeber that much, but I do remember one thing. I must have only been about 3 or 4, I'm not sure, and I was on holiday with my family, and my grandparents and I had an ice cream and I wanted to climb to the top of this hill, and my parentes were like," No, No, No. Wait until you finish your ice cream, and then you can go" and I was like, "Nope, I'm going to go now" so I climbed to the top of the hill. It was only a small hill, I was only little and then I dediced it would be great to run down the hill really fast, which I did, and I ran to the bottom of the hill, fell over, ice cream all over me, and I don't think I got another ice cream after that.Todd: Oh that's funny, and other memories from childhood.Lois: I think I also remember pushing my brothers around in my brother's pram and him falling out and banging his head and there being lots of blood. I think I might have got is a lot of trouble for that one.Todd: Oh! So you have a younger brother?Lois: I have a younger brother and I have an older brother.Todd: Oh, OKLois: So I'm the middle child, which is not always good because when we used to go on holiday my brothers would always fight in the car, so I always had to sit in the middle of them so if they were fighting I could stop the fighting, so I didn't like being the middle child.Todd: Well, I sure you served a good purpose for your parents.Lois: Well, I hope so, but still my brothers are now 27 and 23 and they still fight now, so I didn't actually manage to stop that.。
介绍动画设计ELi是一名动画设计师,听他讲讲这个专业以及动画创作界这些年的变化吧。
Todd: Eli, could you talk a little bit about what you study to be an animator and how the industry has changed over the years?Eli: Yeah, well, I actually studied, the degree I did was a graphic design course, which taught you art, every aspect of graphic design but they looked at graphic design as actually communication design which is basically just trying to get a message across a certain way thought the use of graphics, you know graphical methods, so I mean, that doesn't necessarily mean just you know text, words, on a screen, you know, words on a poster. I mean, people's people's views of graphic design is usually like posters, advertising, um, adverts in magazines but we were sort of made to think that that is just a tiny bit of graphic design, I mean you can communicate message, through any medium, you know even sort of acting, and stuff like that, they were, it was really that broad so, obviously with my love of anime I chose animation, I mean, it's something I've been interested in for a long time and I do 3D computer animation kind of like "Toy Story" but obviously not as good. I was actually the only person on my course doing that, so it was quite a challenge. I had an amazing animation tutor, who had got some pretty amazing portfolio behind him, to help me out, and if it wasn't for him, I probably would have torn my hair out years ago and maybe even quit the course cause I, there was a big, dispute with sort of my view of computer animation, what I was interested in with the graphic design tutor's views, they were all about deep meaning and you know, messages behind work and I was actually about learning how to animate well, you know the techniques of animation. I mean it's always very important to have the background skills of ideas because you can be technically good at something, you can be able to use a computer program brilliantly, but if you don't have the sort of ideas or background then you're never going to be able to make a good piece. I mean, I've heard that Pixar, the company who make "Toy Story" actually hire actors instead of animators to do their animating. They hire them for their acting skills and then they teach them how to use the software afterwards, cause actually, that's what it's about, it's making characters act, it's whatever it is, whether it's a coke can or a book, if you want to give that a personality, you got to think about how you're gonna give this inanimate object a personality, how are you going to make it looked scared, how are you going to make it look happy, um, that's what I was interested in, sort of techniques of learning how to do that, so, yeah, it was a struggle but it was definitely worth it in the end, and I think I'll go on to have a good career.。

原版英语口语情景对话第0178集:讲述国外交换生经历Christian高中时作为交换生去到新西兰,听他讲讲对那的感受以及在那生活的经历吧。
Todd: OK, Christian, you were just telling me that you lived in New Zealand as an exhange student!Christian: That's right. In high school, yeah.Todd: What was that like?Christian: I mean, I was 17 years at the time and, you know, I was just leaving home for the first time and going abroad for a year without going home, and it was the first time to actually move out of my family and it was an intimidating experience but at the same time it was extremely enjoyable. I had a great time, traveled around, met a lot of great people, got introduced into Maori culture, and yeah it was fascinating, really fascinating.Todd: What did you like the most about New Zealand?Christian: The country itself, probably the nature and the wildlife. It's just so pure, so green. You got the big mountains, you got the fjords, the rivers. It's all such, it's a great eco-system, you can tell that it's non polluted. It's just really nice. If you appreciate it, call it nature, you can walk around and soak up the atmosphere. It's really good.Todd: What was the hardest thing about living so far from home?Christian: The fact that I could only communicate to my family through faxes in the beginning because calling was a bit expensive. The circumstances didn't allow me to use the phone where I was living, so I had to use faxes and that is a bit strange.Todd: Wow, so there's no e-mail or internet?Christian: Well, at the time, e-mail wasn't used that much in New Zealand. There was one computer in my school that had an interntet connection. And I was allowed to use that because I was an exchange student, the only exchange student at my school. They said, well you can come in and use it every now and then, I used it maybe once a week, because I had never used e-mail before cause this was back in 97, so it's eight, like seven or eight years ago, and I guess, in New Zealand they didn't really have that many connections.Todd: Wow, great story.Christian: It was truly great, yeah.。
讲述辗转人生我从小就远渡国外求学,辗转经年直至成年才回到故土,这样的生活经历有利有弊。
I am totally English but I spent my whole life basically living in other countries, well, my parents spent most of my life living in other countries. I've actually been at school in England for quite a while of it. Living away from your own country is great. I guess it's really good when you're young you get to see different countries.I stopped off in Africa and Nigeria. I was actually born in England, but I went there fifteen days after I was born so, my first plane flight was 15 days old, and I can't really remember obviously that much of that but then we went to Holland for nine years, which is great and it's, you know, I'm very lucky to have grown up in a different culture, although very embarassingly I can's speak the language cause I always went to an Enlgish school, but it's kind of difficult cause you, wherever you go, you make friends. You get close to people and then suddenly you have to move, and move house, go on to somewhere else, and I found this to be the sort of hardest thing, when I was 8, I went off to boarding school in England cause my parents thought I'd get a better education that way than moving around to different schools all over the world, and this was you know, it was good it was fun, but something like I always envied was the way, all the other kids at school, there school friends were just their friends in term time, but their real friends were friends that, you know, they had known since they were little, since you know, since they had been born or, you know their early school friends and they still knew them and you know even when I was 18 years old, still, my friend's from school had their real friends at home who they'd known all there lives, and I've kind of always envied that because we've always been moving around and as I say, you know, I'm very lucky, we've been in Holland, Scotland, and Africa, and I've very lucky to have seen all of these places but it's kind of hard as well, not having a root, not having a place where you can actually call your home, somewhere to go back to at the end of the day and have all of your family and friends around you.。

I like Vienna. It's very, very easy to get around. Um, very friendly place. The transition from England to Austria is very, a very easy one, and there's a lot to do in Vienna. Can you tell a little about the history of Vienna or why it's historical?Sarah: NoTodd: No! I'm sorry. That's a tough question. How about the food? How about Austrian food?Sarah: I don't like Austrian food actually, I have to say. It's quite heavy. It's very heavy. A lot of sausages, a lot of meats. They're very much into their meats, but they also have a lot of Italian food because of course their on the border, so they have a lot of influence from other cultures, so they like curry , and Italian food as well, it's very, very big.Todd: And what's the landscape like in Vienna?Sarah: In Vienna?Todd: I mean, I'm sorry, in Austria?Sarah: The landscape is beautiful. That is one of the main reasons why I went there. It's very mountainous, and the Tirol, which is very beautiful.Todd: I'm sorry the Tirol?Sarah: The Tirol. It's like um, like, it's just a long journey through the mountains that you go through. It's called the Tirol.Todd: Did you go hiking?Sarah: No I went skiing a few times, not hiking.Todd: Good, good ski slopes?Sarah: Very! Very good yeah!。

第268集讲述获奖经历
Ian见过爱丁堡的公爵,是什么奖能让他由此殊荣呢?
Ian: Hey, Ian, have you ever met anyone famous?
Todd: Anyone famous? Ah, yes, I have. I met the Duke of Edinburgh.
Ian: Mm, who's that?
Todd: He is the Queen's husband and I met him at Buckingham Palace.
Ian: How did that happen?
Todd: Well, it was because I received an award.
Ian: What kind of an award?
Todd: The award was called the Duke of Edinburgh Award and I completed the bronze award, the silver award, and the gold award, and if you complete all three, then you can go to Buckingham Palace and he gives you your award.
Ian: The award is for what kind of job?
Todd: OK, well it's for young people between the ages of, I think it's 14 to 21, but I'm not quite sure, and you have to do different challenges for each award. Now, for the gold award you had to do community service, and I visited an old man. I had to do a sport and I played badminton. You had to do an expedition, and we went hiking in the Breton Beacons in Wales for five days and you had to do a skill and I did driving and you had to do each one for a year.
Ian: So what was it like getting the award?
Todd: Um, it was exciting and disappointing at the same time because my friends and I, we were waiting at Buckingham Palace for quite a long time and we had all our best clothes on: our ties, our shirts, our trousers. We had very clean shoes. It was quite hot and we were waiting and we were waiting and in came the Duke of Edinburgh. and he gave us our award. He asked us maybe one question each and then he went, so we only actually met him for about five minutes.
Ian: So it wasn't the most exciting time, meeting him a famous person.
Todd: No, he was a very busy man, but you know, I shook his hand, and that was it, but it was nice to see Buckingham Palace and it was a good day out in London.
Ian: Sounds like it.。
