Last Wednesday was the English Reading Club! I was super excited because I just love the reading club. It's my favorite thing ever!
We always start by sitting in a circle on the big rug in the library. There are so many of us that the circle is really huge. Ms. Martin, our teacher who runs the club, sits in the middle. She has a big basket full of books that we're going to read.
"Hello my little bookworms!" Ms. Martin said in her warm, smiley voice. "Who is ready for another adventure through the magical world of books?"
We all cheered and raised our hands, wiggling with anticipation. Reading books is just the best.
"Wonderful!" Ms. Martin laughed. "Well, we have a very special book to explore today. Can anyone guess what it might be about?"
We all started shouting out guesses about what kind of book it would be. Jordan thought it would be about dinosaurs. Lily hoped it was a princess book. Samuel was sure it had to be about outer space.
Ms. Martin held up her hand for quiet. "While those are all excellent genres, today's book is actually about...animals!"
A lot of us gasped with delight. I just love books about animals. They're my total favorite kind of book, besides maybe books about candy!
"Yes, indeed," Ms. Martin continued. "A very special collection of stories all about our friends in the animal kingdom. Who's ready to hear the first tale?"
We all clapped and cheered, so excited to hear what amazing animal we'd be learning about first. I could hardly sit still, I was so eager.
Ms. Martin reached into the basket and pulled out a big, colorful book. She held it up for us all to see the cover, which showed a bunch of different jungle animals.
"Today we'll be traveling deep into the rainforest to meet the mighty jaguar with the book 'The Lurking Hunter' by Amanda Delrio," Ms. Martin told us. "Let's dive right in!"
She opened up the book and began reading the first page in her wonderful storytelling voice that made you feel like you were really there. The words painted such a vivid picture in my mind of the dense, sweltering jungle and the sleek, powerful jaguar padding silently through the undergrowth.
The story followed the jaguar, who was the "lurking hunter" of the title, as it skillfully stalked and caught different prey animals like a tapir and a capybara. We learned all about how good jaguars' senses of sight, smell and hearing are for hunting. And how they can even climb trees and swim in rivers looking for food!
I was completely captivated the whole time, hanging on Ms. Martin's every word. The story was just so exciting and fascinating. I felt like I was right there with the jaguar, using my own eyes and ears to spot the next meal.
When Ms. Martin got to the last page and closed the book, we all let out a disappointed "awwwww!" We never wanted the adventure to end!
"What did you all think? Did you enjoy meeting the jaguar and seeing how it hunts?" Ms. Martin asked with a smile.
"Yes!" we all yelled eagerly. We just loved that book.
"Wonderful," Ms. Martin said happily. "I'm so glad you found it interesting and fun. Learning about different animals and their behaviors is one of the most amazing things we can do."
She looked around the circle at all of us. "Now, who would like to share what their favorite part was or something new they learned?"
Lots of hands went up, kids eager to talk about the story. Ms. Martin started calling on us one by one.
Jacob talked about how he loved the descriptions of the jaguar's spots and rosettes in its fur coat. Isabelle shared that she learned jaguars are actually pretty good swimmers. Liam's favorite part was when the jaguar finally pounced on the tapir and made the catch after all that patient stalking.
When it was my turn, I talked about how wild it was that jaguars live in such a hot, humid environment like the rainforest. I couldn't even imagine getting all sweaty and icky like that! The jaguar must have felt so sticky and gross. Though I guess maybe big cats don't really get too hot and sweaty.
Everyone laughed at my observation about the jaguar sweating. Even Ms. Martin got a case of the giggles imagining a
jaguar having to use pit stick deodorant before going hunting in the jungle.
Once we'd all gotten our turn to share our thoughts, Ms. Martin put the book back in the basket. "Alright my little roaming readers, should we dive into another animal adventure today?" she asked.
"Yes!" we all cheered eagerly.
And so we spent the rest of our reading club time being transported to the chilly Antarctic to learn about penguins, and then following a pack of African wild dogs as they worked together to take down a much bigger prey animal.
I just can't get enough of these amazing animal stories! Reading about all their incredible behaviors and survival skills in their natural habitats is always the biggest thrill. I seriously count down the days until the next reading club meeting every week.
Books are just the most magical things ever. Getting lost in their pages is like going on the most epic adventures right from my comfy spot on the rug. Wild habitats, faraway lands, legendary beasts - I experience them all through books!
That's why the English Reading Club is pretty much the ultimate best thing in the world to me. We all get to come
together and share these incredible journeys, bonding over our shared love of books and reading. Hearing Ms. Martin's animated read-alouds, seeing the bright, vibrant illustrations, and learning cool new facts - it's simply the best.
I really, really hope we have another animal book next week too! Maybe something about the deep sea like whales or sharks. Or I'd love to learn about Madagascar's wacky wildlife. No matter what it is, I already can't wait to be transported to a brand new world next Wednesday. Bring on the books!

Last Wednesday's English Reading Club
Guess what, you guys? I went to the coolest thing ever last Wednesday – the English Reading Club! It was so much fun, I can't wait to tell you all about it.
First of all, it was in the school library, which is one of my favorite places. There were these big comfy bean bag chairs that we all got to sit on in a circle. I grabbed the bright red one right away – red is my favorite color. Some of my best friends were there too, like Jessica and Michael. But there were also some new kids I didn't know yet, which was exciting!
The teacher running it was Miss Jackson. She's our reading teacher and she's really nice and pretty cool too. She started by saying "Welcome to English Reading Club, bookworms!" in this big animated voice. I could tell right away it was going to be a blast.
Then she held up this thick book with a picture of a boy and his dog on the front cover. "Who can guess what famous book this is?" she asked. My hand shot right up because I knew! "The Call of the Wild, by Jack London!" I shouted. Miss Jackson gave me a high five for getting it right. I was pretty proud of myself.
Miss Jackson said we would be reading a few chapters of The Call of the Wild at each meeting. It's an adventure book about this sled dog named Buck who gets shipped to the Yukon during the Klondike Gold Rush. He has to survive in the freezing cold wilderness and goes through all these crazy experiences. I had never read it before but it sounded awesome.
We went around the circle taking turns reading parts out loud. I did a great job with the voices and accents for the characters when it was my turn. Everybody clapped after I finished my part. Jessica and Michael were really good too. There was this one new boy named Timmy who was a bit shy and kept
messing up words, but nobody made fun of him. We just helped him along.
Once we got through the first couple chapters, Miss Jackson stopped us. "Okay bookworms, huddle up!" We all leaned our heads in closer as she asked some questions about what we had read so far. Like what did we think of Buck's character? And how would we feel being transported from our safe homes to the dangerous Yukon like he was? I raised my hand a bunch to share my thoughts. I had so many ideas!
After the discussion, we split into teams and Miss Jackson gave us some activities related to the book chapters. My team had to draw pictures predicting what we thought might happen next in the story. Jessica is an amazing artist, so we let her do most of the drawing. I helped out with adding fun details though, like Buck breathing frosty clouds in the cold air and icicles hanging from the trees.
Then it was snack time! Miss Jackson had made a huge batch of trail mix for us – the same kind of food Buck and the sled teams would have eaten in the book. There were nuts, raisins, seeds, and even some chocolate chips mixed in as a special treat. It tasted super yummy and gave us energy.
After snack time, we switched activities and I got to act out a scene with Michael and Timmy. I got to play the part of a gruff musher yelling "Mush you huskies! Mush!" while pretending to drive a dog sled team. It was hilarious and we all cracked up laughing.
Too soon, Miss Jackson said the club was over for the day. "Great work today, bookworms! Same time next week and we'll read more of Buck's adventures." As we were leaving, she handed each of us a little notebook. "This is for writing down any thoughts you have about the book as you go," she told us. "I can't wait to hear your ideas!"
On the walk home, I was already making notes in my new notebook. I wrote down words I didn't know, like "emanated" and "primordial" so I could look them up later. I also jotted down predictions, like I bet Buck was going to have to fight one of the other sled dogs soon to become the leader.
English Reading Club was just the highlight of my whole week. I had so much fun reading that awesome book, getting to act things out, and just being around others who love books as much as I do. I can't wait for next Wednesday to read more and do other cool activities. Reading rocks!

Last Wednesday English Reading Club Day!
Guess what? Last Wednesday was English Reading Club day at school! I was sooooo excited because I just love the Reading Club. It's my favorite thing we do every week.
We had it right after lunch in Mrs. Thompson's classroom. Mrs. Thompson is my English teacher and she runs the Reading Club. She's really nice and makes learning English fun.
When I got to her classroom, some kids were already there. Tommy and Samantha were sitting at the front desks reading books. They always try to get the best seats! I saw my best friend Jessica and went to sit next to her in the back.
More kids came in after that. Michael, Aisha, David and a bunch of others. Soon the whole classroom was full with about 20 kids from grades 3 to 5. The room was buzzing with everyone talking and catching up. It was kinda noisy but no one cared.
Finally, Mrs. Thompson clapped her hands and said "Okay bookworms, let's get started!" Everyone went quiet because we were eager to begin. Reading Club is the best.
Mrs. Thompson said today we were going to discuss the book we had been reading, which was called "The Enormous Crocodile" by Roald Dahl. I LOVE Roald Dahl! His books are sooooo funny and creative.
First, she asked us what we thought about the crocodile himself and if we found him to be a scary villain or not. I raised my hand and said I didn't find him too scary because he was supposed to be a goofy, silly villain. Jessica agreed with me.
But David said he actually found the crocodile to be quite creepy and sinister, especially with all his wicked plans to eat children! A bunch of other kids nodded in agreement. There was some good debate about that.
Next, Mrs. Thompson asked us what our favorite part of the book was. I said my favorite was when the crocodile was coming up with all his ridiculous schemes and funny disguises to trick the children. Like when he was pretending to be a beautiful tree! So silly.
Tommy's favorite was at the end when all the animals ganged up on the crocodile and he got his comeuppance. Mike said he liked the vivid descriptions of the scenes and settings in the book. Aisha's favorite was when the crocodile'savn plans
kept getting messed up by the other jungle animals. We all had such different favorite moments!
After that, Mrs. Thompson split us into groups and we had to act out different scenes from the book. My group did the one where the crocodile dresses up as a swiss cheeseman with ski poles. We all laughed so hard trying to do the voices and actions. It was hilarious!
The group that went next did the scene where the crocodile is trying to convince the kids to get onto his tightly-closed suitcase. David made an awesome crocodile villain and Samantha played a great naive kid who luckily didn't fall for the trick.
At the very end, Mrs. Thompson congratulated us all on our great performances and analysis of the book. She said next week we'd be starting a new book called "James and the Giant Peach."
I can't wait!
Then the bell rang for our next class. As we were leaving, Mrs. Thompson gave us each a chocolate crocodile lollipop which was so cool! I ate mine right away - it was delicious.
I just love English Reading Club so much. Reading the funny stories, discussing them with my friends, and doing the acting is
my favorite part of the whole week. I'm already counting down the days until next Wednesday! Six more days to go...

My Awesome English Reading Club
Last Wednesday was the best day ever! It was our weekly English Reading Club meeting after school. I love the Reading Club so much because we get to read really cool books and talk about them in English. It's super fun!
This time, we read a book called "The Chocolate Touch" by Patrick Skene Catling. It's about this boy named John who reallyyyy loves chocolate. Like, he loves it more than anything in the whole world! One day, this weird old man gives John a magical gift - everything he puts in his mouth turns into chocolate! At first, John thinks it's the greatest thing ever. He can eat chocolate anytime he wants! Yum!
But then, things start to get pretty gross and crazy. John turns his wonderful breakfast into a pile of chocolate mush. His amazing turkey dinner? Chocolate city! Even water becomes
thick, melty chocolate when it touches his lips. Oh no! Poor John can't eat anything but chocolate. His parents start to get really mad at him for making such a big mess everywhere.
The funniest part was when John turned his friend's basketball into a chocolate sphere during gym class. Everyone was so confused! John tried to explain his magical chocolate touch, but nobody believed him. I laughed so hard during that scene. Can you imagine dribbling a chocolate basketball? Hilarious!
My favorite character was definitely the weird old man who gave John the chocolate curse...or was it a blessing? The book never really explains who he is or why he did it. He just shows up, zaps John with chocolate powers, and disappears. So mysterious and quirky! I wish we could have learned more about him.
By the end, poor John realizes that too much of a good thing isn't always great after all. The chocolate touch seemed like a dream come true, but it actually ruined everything for him. John couldn't hang out with friends, play sports, or even eat normal food anymore. When he finally breaks the spell, he's just happy to be able to enjoy little bits of chocolate again as an occasional treat.
After we finished reading, we had an amazing discussion about the book. My teacher asked us all kinds of
thought-provoking questions, like "What lessons can we learn from John's experiences?" and "Have you ever taken something too far like John did with the chocolate?" The English Reading Club meetings are my favorite because I love analyzing all the deeper meanings and picking apart the characters.
I shared my theory that the weird old man was actually supposed to teach John a life lesson about gluttony and appreciation. At first, John was selfish and only thought about stuffing his face with as much chocolate as possible. But after he lost all the other wonderful things in life, he realized that chocolate tastes so much better when you savor it as a small part of a balanced lifestyle. The old man's "gift" helped John learn to keep his chocolate cravings under control.
Some of my classmates had different interpretations though. Jessica thought the old man was really just a chocoholic prankster who got a kick out of causing mischief. Martin wondered if the man used to have the chocolate touch himself as a kid, and that's why he passed it along to John. There are so many possibilities!
After our discussion, we had an activity where we got to design brand new book covers for "The Chocolate Touch." I drew John surrounded by piles of chocolate baseballs, chocolate rivers, and chocolate dogs. In the background, there was the shadowy figure of the weird old man peeking out from behind a tree. For the title, I wrote "Too Much Chocolate?!" in huge, drippy letters. My teacher loved my artistic and clever concept!
English Reading Club is my favorite part of the week. We got to go on such a wild, delicious adventure with John and his cocoa curse. Mrs. Peters always picks the most entertaining books with unlikey characters and ridiculous scenarios. Even though they're written for kids, the messages and lessons are pretty deep when you start to dig below the surface. Books are just so much fun!
I can't wait until next Wednesday so we can pick our next zany novel to analyze. Maybe it'll be about a reality where dogs rule the world as our humans. Or a young girl with the power to control kids' minds with her lunchbox. Or a group of teens who wake up one morning to find they've turned into slimy blobs of jelly! Reading stories like these stretches my imagination and gets me thinkinglots of crazy "what if" thoughts.
Yup, the English Reading Club is definitely the highlight of my week. Mrs. Peters is the coolest teacher for making reading
so exciting and allowing us to explore the books on a deeper level. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a very important mission to go bake some chocolate chip cookies - but I'll be sure to enjoy them in moderation like John learned. Too much of a good thing is never good!

Here's an English essay of around 2,000 words about introducing the English Reading Club from last Wednesday, written in the tone of an elementary school student:
Last Wednesday was Super Fun Day! We had our English Reading Club and it was the best time ever! I was so excited when Miss Emily said we were gonna read a really cool book.
The book was called "The Magic Treehouse" by Mary Pope Osborne. It's about these two kids, Jack and Annie, who have this awesome treehouse that can take them on adventures through time and space! How cool is that? I wish I had a magic treehouse like that. We could go see the dinosaurs or visit ancient Egypt. That would be so epic!
Anyway, in the book we read, Jack and Annie went to a forest a long, long time ago. I think it was in the 1400s or something. They met this really nice knight called Sir Galahad who was
looking for something called the Holy Grail. I'm not totally sure what that is, but it sounded really important.
Jack and Annie helped Sir Galahad fight these mean people who wanted the Holy Grail for themselves. There was a big battle with swords and everything! I was on the edge of my seat. Jack and Annie were so brave, even though they were just kids like us. They used their smarts to trick the bad guys and help Sir Galahad.
In the end, the good guys won and Sir Galahad found the Holy Grail. But Jack and Annie had to go home to their treehouse before they could see it. I was a little sad they didn't get to look at the Holy Grail, but I guess they had already had a pretty crazy adventure!
After we finished the book, Miss Emily asked us all kinds of questions about what happened. She's really good at getting us to think about the deeper meanings and stuff. Like, we talked about courage and why it's important to help others, even if it's scary. Jack and Annie were just regular kids, but they still risked a lot to do the right thing. That's a good lesson for all of us, I think.
We also talked about the time travel part and how things were different back then compared to today. Everything from the way people dressed to the weapons they used was so strange
and old-fashioned. It made me grateful we don't have to fight with swords and sleep in cold castles anymore! Modern life is way more comfortable.
After our discussion, Miss Emily had us split into groups and act out different scenes from the book. My group did the part where Jack and Annie first arrive in the forest and meet Sir Galahad. Timmy was Sir Galahad and he made this really serious voice that cracked me up. I was Annie and Chloe was Jack. We had a blast pretending to be surprised by everything and asking Timmy a million questions.
Some of the other groups did the battle scene, which was hilarious with all the kids making sword-fighting noises and dramatic death scenes. I almost peed my pants laughing when Michael fell down and stuck his tongue out like he was dead. What a silly billy!
At the end, we all gave our groups a big round of applause. Miss Emily said we did an amazing job bringing the story to life. She gave us all stickers and little candies as a treat. I got a strawberry one that was so yummy!
Reading Club is seriously the highlight of my week. I love escaping into cool stories with my friends and using my imagination. Jack and Annie's magic treehouse makes me want
to go on adventures too! Maybe our school library has other books about their travels. I'll definitely be checking those out.
I can't wait for next week's Reading Club so we can dive into
a brand new story. Whatever book Miss Emily picks, I know it's gonna be epic. As long as we're all together, using our brains and being creative, any book can become the most fun adventure ever. Woohoo!。
