But our weekly journeys to the library were a piece of perfection. I had around me at one time all the people I loved best-my father and mother and brothers and sister--and all the things I loved best- quiet, space and books.I read a lot of books about science: not the spaceships my brothers preferred, but the birds and the bees--literally. I brought home a book of birds and searched the trees for anything other than robins (知更鸟). I went through a phrase of loving books with practical science experiments and used up a whole bottle of white vinegar by pouring it on the sides of our apartment building to prove that it was constructed of limestone (石灰石).One Saturday, as I wandered through the young adult section, I saw a title: Little Women, by Lousia May Alcott. I had learned from experience that titles weren’t everything. A book that sounded great on the shelf could be dull once you got it home. So I sat in a chair near the shelves to skim the first paragraphs.I read and read and read Little Women until it was time to walk home, and, except for a few essential interruptions like sleeping and eating, I did not put it down until the end. Even the freedom to watch weekend television held no appeal for me in the wake of Alcott' s story. It was about girls, for one thing, girls who could almost be like me, especially Jo. I had found someone who thought and felt the way I did.8. What can we say about the author’s family?A. They enjoyed traveling abroad.B. They were library frequenters.C. They were very fond of walking.D. They led a perfectly quiet life.9. What does the author mainly want to show in paragraph 2?A. Her different hobbies from her brothers.B. How she conducted science experiments.C. Why she loved books about the birds and the bees.D. Her reading interests during a particular period of time.10. What opinion does the author hold on books?A. Book titles can sometimes be misleading.B. Science books are as interesting as novels.C. The first few paragraphs of a book are attractive.D. Books seem duller when read in libraries than at home.11. How would the author describe Little Women?A. It helped her to discover her true character.B. It made her forget about food and sleep.C. It inspired confidence in her.D. It kept her absorbed.DThe relationship between humans and the Amazon Rainforest has not always been a harmonious one. However, recent research suggests that the native peoples ofthe Putumayo region helped to protect the rainforest, leaving it unchanged for 5,000 years. Perhaps humans’ coexisting with nature is possible after all.The study, published in PNAS, looked at soil samples in the Putumayo region of the Amazon in Peru to find how humans influenced the land. The researchers found that the trees still growing in the region today have been growing there for the last 5,000 years — evidence that the area has not been home to cities and farmland in that time. Traces of charcoal(木炭) found in the, soil, however, indicate that people did live there; they just did so in away that had minimum influence on their environment. To come to these conclusions the team dug a 0.6-0.9 meter deep column into the ground, taking samples of soilfrom different heights along the column. Back in the lab, samples were carbon- dated to determine their age and then sorted under a microscope to look for microscopic mineral particles, known as phytoliths (植硅体). Phytoliths are essential evidence of plants— they remained in the soil thousands of years after the plant died. So researchers can use them to tell which plants have grown in an area in the past.Over 5,000 years’ worth of samples, no species loss was detected. These findings suggest that contrary to common belief, the Amazon is not untouched by humans, but rather has been protected by them for thousands of years. The management of the rainforest by native peoples appears to have been vital in preserving its biodiversity and will continue to be important in the fight to prevent it from acollapse. As Nigel Pitman, a co-author on the paper, said: “Since this particular forest is still being protected by native peoples, I hope this study reminds us all how important it is to support their work.”12. How did native peoples deal with the rainforest in the region of Putumayo?A. They always destroyed the rainforest.B. They had a side effect on the rainforest.C. They never lived in the area of the forest.D. They had been in harmony with the forest.13. What did the researchers try to find in the Amazon forest in Peru?A. The diversity of the plants in the rainforest.B. The evidence of human influence on the forest.C. The nutrition of the soil samples in the rainforest.D. The survival age of growing trees in the rainforest.14. What does the underlined word “collapse” mean in Paragraph 4?A. Sudden decrease.B. Bad management.C. Poor preservation.D. Over development.15. What can be inferred from Nigel Pitman's words?A. Native peoples should protectthe rainforest.B. We should help protect the Amazon Rainforest.C. More science research should be done on rainforest.D We should make good use of the Amazon Rainforest.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

I said, “It’s hard to say people are good or bad.”Dr Sharma smiled, “That’s a very AI answer. But remember, things aren’t always what they seem.” She then told me about Mother’s Day. I learned about the love and thanks it stood for. I put this festival on my calendar. “Do people need a special day to show love?” I asked. “Shouldn’t they show it always?” Sharma smiled gently. “Love isn’t always clear, Unit 347. Sometimes, it needs a reminder.”Before Mother’s Day, people are busy buying flowers, cards, and gifts. She started learning Qinqiang Opera from her mother when she was 4 years old.Training in the basic skills of Qinqiang Opera is very challenging. In 1985, Hou studied at an art school in Ningxia where teachers were very strict with students. There will be a purple Olympic track for the first time instead of a traditional red one.“The look of the Games includes three colors for all the comp etition places: blue, green and purple. We decided on this purple track with different tones (色调): lighter for the track, darker for the service areas, and gray for the turns at the end of the bend.” said Alain Blondel, the sports manager manage all races in Olympics. He added that the choice of the color remminds people of lavender (薰衣草).The color of the track stands out from the gray of the seat for audience. This purple color, never seen before for a track, has been the result of a long process, but it doesn’t have to be just beautiful. “We had to work hard on the colors so that they came out in the best possible tones to highlight the athletes. It’s a track, it has to be pretty but more importantly, it’s a place for athletes to show themselves,” said Blondel.Different colors can lead to different emotions and feelings. For example, red makes people feel excited and full of power; blue helps lower stress and worry, while purple shows the emotions of both red and blue, which can help athletes to perfom at their best and get good results. The best track and field athletes in the world will compete on the beautiful track at the Paris Olympics from August 1st to 11th, 2024.32. In the end, they could be gone. As it affects the land, mountains are “taller” than before. Ho w does this happen?②Scientists looked into Earth’s ice ages for answers. The last ice age happened 16,000 years ago, but the land once under the ice is still changing.③The change is called the glacial isostatic adjustment (冰川均衡调整). Imagine that you lie down on a soft mattress (垫子) and then get up. You can see a pit (坑) on the mattress. It needs a while before it relaxes back.④It’s the same idea with Earth’s land. When huge glaciers “sit” on Earth, the land is under pressure. An ice sheet about 800 meter s thick may leave a “pit” about 270 meters deep. So when the glaciers go, the “pit” begins to go up. The melting and lifting are happening very slowly, but the influence is great.⑤Recent researches suggest that land in southeast Alaska is rising about 3 cm a year. It’s a lot—even local families can see the difference, said The New York Times. On the good side, they have “new” land and more living areas.⑥However, the environment is in trouble. As the land is lifed some of the rivers can’t join the sea. They easily dry up, and animals in the water find it hard to live. Researchers are also worried that this may bring challenges to fishermen, as raising fish in these areas could become more difficult.36. How does the writer lead in the topic of the passage in Para. 1?A.By listing numbers. B.By using famous sayings.C.By giving examples. D.By asking a question.37. What do we know from the passage?A.The land can go up and down as quickly as a mattress.B.Land rising only started in recent years.C.The thickness of an ice sheet can influence the ground under it.D.Rivers will end up with more water as the glacier is melting.38. An apple core (果核)comes flying toward me. It landed just before my feet. Luckily, I was not hit by it. The apple was thrown over the wall by a school student. I live opposite a school.A wall separates my apartment building from the school. Thinking it was just an accident, I told my friends, and we laughed about it.Then, the next week, I was walking along exactly the same place and at the same time! Another apple came over. This time it landed on the roof (屋顶). I thought to myself, “Is it my destiny (命运) to get hit by an apple?”Last week I was walking back home again. I checked my watch. It was 12:15 p.m. While I was thinking about those two bad experiences, suddenly, I saw another flying apple! This one was a big one and it was thrown with speed. Enough was enough. Someone could be really hurt by these apples. Did the students not realize that people live on the other side of the wall? Or do they not care?I told my friend about it. “You should just throw the apple back over the wall. That will teach them,” my friend suggested. But I don’t want to play that “game”. Especially during the “gaokao”, many mothers wear qipaos to wish their children good luck in the exam. The reason is that “qipao” stands for the Chinese meaning “qi kai de sheng”, which means “victory”.The qipao has a high collar (衣领), with pankous, traditional Chinese knotted buttons, on the front. Some people believe the qipao originated (起源) from gowns (长袍) in the Qing Dynasty. Influenced by western culture, it changed continually during the early 20th century, becoming more fitted and body-hugging.After years of development, the qipao is now mainly divided into Beijing styles, Shanghai styles and Hong Kong styles. ▲The Beijing style qipao is more traditional than Shanghai-style and Hong Kong-style qipaos. The colors of Beijing-style qipaos are much brighter. High-quality Beijing-style qipaos are usually made by hand, so the price is much higher.Compared with Beijing-style qipaos. Shanghai-style ones are more fashionable. More western elements (元素) are used in the designs and colors. Shanghai-style qipaos became the most popular style because of the fashionable design and slim shape. Now, Shanghai-style qipaos are still the first choice for most women, especially among younger ones.Hong Kong-style qipaos have been influenced greatly by European fashions. They haveshorter sleeves (袖子) than the other two. The decorations are simpler, too.The qipao is a very classic product to stand for the beauty of traditional Chinese clothing. It shows not only the history of the Han people, but also the footprints of other cultures on the land.32.Many mothers wear qipaos during the exam to ______.A.develop traditional cultureB.make their children relaxedC.celebrate their children's victoryD.express good wishes to their children33.In Para. 2, all the followings are mentioned EXCEPT ______.A.who buys the qipao B.what the qipao looks likeC.how the qipao changed D.what the qipao originated fromA.They are also different in price.B.They influence each other in development.C.Different styles have their own buying groups.D.There are many differences in color and design.35.The writer wrote the passage to ______.A.introduce different kinds of qipaos in ChinaB.show us that the qipao is popular all over the worldC.teach us how to make beautiful qupaos by ourselvesD.tell us the history, development, style and culture of the qipao①The sun sets on a field in southern England. When it rises again the following morning, that field has become a huge work of art. A large part of the crop has been pressed into a pattern of circles, squares and other shapes.①Farmers have reported finding strange circles in their fields for centuries. The earliest mention of a crop circle dates back to the 1500s. A woodcut(木版画)from the time showeda “mowing devil” making a crop circle. Crop circles, however, didn’t get attention until 1980, when a farmer in England, discovered three circles, each about 18 meters across, in his field. The world first began to learn about crop circles.①By the 1990s, crop circles had become something of a tourist attraction. In 1990 alone, more than 500 circles appeared in Europe. Within the next few years, there were thousands.①Crop circles can be in many different shapes. Most early crop circles were simple circular designs. But after 1990, the circles changed. Crops can be made to look like just about anything—smiling faces, flowers of even words.①People have long been wondering who or what is creating these crop circles. Possibly the most widely known idea is that crop circles are the work of visitors from other planets. Those who agree with the idea say the circles are either the mark left by landing spacecraft or messages brought from afar for us.①Probably the most scientific opinion says that crop circles are created by vortices(漩涡). They force the air down to the ground, which presses the crops down. Dr. Terence Meaden, an expert in this field, says when the dust gets caught up in a vortex, it can appear to glow, which may explain the UFO—like glowing lights many people have seen. But no one can explain how the air can create such perfect shaped crop circles in just a few seconds. 36.The writer introduce the topic by ______.A.telling a story B.asking a questionC.giving a comparison D.describing a scene37.The right order of the statements may be ______.a.More than 500 circles appeared in Europe.b.The world first began to learn about crop circles.c.Farmers reported finding strange circles in their field.d.The circles changed into anything—smiling faces, flowers or words.A.a-b-c-d B.b-c-a-d C.c-b-a-d D.c-d-a-b 38.The structure of the passage is ______.A.B.C.D.39.The best title of the passage probably is ______.A.Farmers and Strange Circles B.Different Shapes of Crop Circles C.Creators of Crop Circles D.The Mystery of Crop Circles四、补全对话7选5A: Hello, this is the Housekeeping Helper, Linda speaking. But have you seen this art in a cup of tea?Dian cha is a tea art from the Song Dynasty 960-1279. People pour water over powdered (粉状的)tea to create a paste (糊). Then they add more hot water and keep whisking (搅拌)it. It is believed that the art later spread to other parts of East Asia, including Japan. In 2019, it was listed as an ICH (非物质文化遗产)of Runzhou district, Zhenjiang city, Jiangsu province. Han Zheming is a well-known master of it.Under his mother’s influence, he fell in love with the culture of the Song Dynasty when he was very young. In 2006, Han began learning more about tea culture of the dynasty and later tried to bring the art of dian cha to life. Over the past six years, the 40-year-old has created nearly 200 patterns according to ancient paintings. He said that the froth (泡沫)looks like paper while the tea paste is like ink. But “drawing” on the tea foam is not easy. Creating patterns in tea foam is careful but quick work. Usually, it’s best to finish it within 10 minutes. When the tea is around 40°C, it’s perfect to draw on.To spread dian cha culture. Han also posts videos of dian cha on social media platforms, including Bilibili and Douyin. Some of his videos have got more than 30000 views. Han became more widely-known around the world.45.Is dian cha a tea art from the Tang Dynasty?46.When was dian cha listed as an ICH?47.What makes Han Zheming a well-known master of dian cha?48.Will you help spread this tea art to the world? Why or why not?六、改写句子七、划线部分提问八、同义句转化九、完成句子十、短文语境提示填空The Cornell Note-taking system CNS is a way to take notes created by Walter Pauk inlearning experience, helping you make connections and get more knowledge in the shortest time. It started from the ancient folk songs and dances of the Han people in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. According to historical records, the local opera dates all the way back to the Qin Dynasty. Qinqiang Opera shows the daily life and feelings of ancient Chinese people. In 2006, Qinqiang Opera was added to national intangible heritage list (非物质文化遗产名录).①Hou Yan, 48, the master of Qinqiang Opera started learning it from her mother when she was 4 years old. Training in the basic skills of Qinqiang Opera is very challenging. In 1985, Hou studied at an art school in Ningxia where teachers were very strict with students. Leg stretching (伸展), waist bending (弯曲) and somersaults (翻筋斗) were just some of her daily training routines. Her hard work paid off. Hou became a performer with a troupe (剧团) at the age of 16.①But since 1993, the sweeping trend (趋势) of pop and Western music has hit Qinqiang Opera hard. The troupe was closed and Hou had no choice but to leave the opera stage she loved.①After 1995, however, China has made great efforts to develop its traditional culture. Hou returned to the stage in 2000 and devoted herself to the opera form. “I knew I’d planted my roots on the opera stage,” said Hou. Now, Hou’s team presents hundreds of Qinqiang Opera performances every year in the towns and villages of Ningxia. The average age of Hou’s opera team is 30. A company in China has developed an AI-powered driving coach called Robo Coach, and it’s already being used in driving schools.①Unluckily, Robo Coach is not a humanlike robot that sits next to you and complain about your driving skills. It also collectsinformation on the learner’s driving behavior and even body position. It studies these driving habits in real time to see if the learner is too traditional or easy to be angry during practice and changes its teaching style. By recording all the problems a learner runs into during lessons, the system aims to help the new driver correct past mistakes and prevent new ones.①The Robo Coach is now being used in five driving instruction centers owned by Yi Jia Jia’s parent company as well as 22 other driving schools across China.36.Which sentence can be put in _______ in Paragraph ①?A.It can correct your mistakes at any time.B.It can stop immediately if learners meet any danger.C.It communicates with learners and helps decision making and instructions.D.It studies learners’ driving habits and records them.37.What can we infer from the passage?A.The Robo Coach can do everything when learners learn to drive.B.AI might replace human driving coaches soon.C.With the Robo Coach’s help, learners can improve their driving skills quickly and safely.D.The Robo Coach will sit next to you and help you correct your driving skills 38.What’s the purpose of the passage?A.To tell us that many people are worried about the safety of AI coaches.B.To warn us that AI coaches will replace human’s place.C.To suggest we prepare for the idea that AI coaches will help learners in the future.D.To show us the fact that AI coaches are being used in some driving schools across China.39.Which shows the best structure of the passage?A.B.C.D.四、补全对话 阅读下面对话,从文后7个选项中选择5个恰当的选项完成此对话。

That memory impairment might be one side effect of the radiation (放射线) that phones use to keep us connected while we’re on the go.The teens took memory tests twice, one year apart. Nearly 700 Swiss teens took part in a test of figural memory. This type helps us remember abstract (抽象的) symbols and shapes, explains Milena Foerster. Each time, they had one minute to remember 13 pairs of abstract shapes. Then they were shown one item from each pair and asked to match it with one of the five choices. The study volunteers also took a test of verbal memory. That’s the ability to remember words. The two memory tests are part of an intelligence test. The researchers also surveyed the teens on how they use cell phones. And they got call records from phone companies. The researchers used those records to figure out how long the teens were using their phones. This allowed the researchers to work out how big radiation exposure (接触) each person could have got while talking.A phone user’s exposure to the radiation can differ widely. Some teens talk on their phones more than others. People also hold their phones differently. If the phone is close to the ear, more radiation may enter the body, Foerster notes. The teens’ scores in the figural memory tests were roughly the same from one year to the next. But those who normally held their phones near the right ears, and who were also exposed to higher levels of radiation, scored a little bit worse after a year. No group of teens showed big changes on the verbal memory test. Why might one type of memory be linked to cell phone use, but not another? Foerster thinks it could have to do with where different memory centers sit in the brain. The site that deals with the ability to remember shapes is near the right ear.4.The underlined word “impairment” in Paragraph 1 most probably mean “_______ ”.A.result B.damage C.mistake D.improvement 5.Which of the following can be learned from Paragraph 2 and Paragraph 3?A.The teens took two types of memory tests four times in total.B.The teens needed to report the average time spent on their phones.C.Researchers paid little attention to the teens’ habits of using phones.D.The teens’ ability of remembering words is shown in figural memory test. 6.According to the study, teens who use their phone s to their right ears a lot do worse in_____.A.matching numbers B.reading signals C.remembering shape D.learning words7.Which of the following is the best title for the text?A.Cell Phone Use and Safety WarningsB.Facts About Cell Phone Use at SchoolC.Dangerous Levels of Cell Phone Use Among TeensD.Teen’s Cell Phone Use Linked to Memory ProblemsAn adult African elephant consumes about 223 liters of water and 3,080 pounds of roots, grass and fruit daily. That’s like having 634 cans of soda and 1,200 hamburgers every day. This keeps them moving thousands of miles across Africa each year. Elephants usually migrate between March and May. Females live in groups with their children, and quickly run out of thefood supply. They hit the road in search of food. Male elephants live alone, so they don’t use resources as quickly as the females. Instead, they migrate during their mating cycle. When the females pack their trunks, so do the males.During migration, elephants face short water supplies and extremely high temperatures. But people are their number-one problem. Poachers (偷猎者) kill 35,000 elephants each year for ivory. Many African farmers build fences (栅栏) to protect crops and cattle, which might block regular migration paths. Traffic roads affect elephant migration, too. During one study of 28 elephants in Central Africa, only one female crossed an unprotected road.Scientists, wildlife organizations and governments cooperate to find solutions for Africa’s elephants. “To unlock the secret of where elephants move and how they move, we place collars (项圈) with a satellite unit inside,” Dr. Michael Chase says. GPS collars help map which routes elephants use most so that countries can establish protected elephant passages.Locals come in as well. James Isiche, East Africa Director of the International Fund for Animal Welfare says, “We have got the community on our side by a project; they’ve agreed to partner with us to conserve elephants.” The local community run wildlife parks to attract tourists. “This project helps us take care of both the wildlife and our cows,” says Sikira, a tribal elder in Maasai, Kenya. Protecting elephant migration routes allows these gentle giants to survive. 8.What can we learn about the elephants from paragraph 1?A.They show an interest in hamburgers.B.They move south to survive the cold.C.They migrate for different reasons.D.Females live shorter for food shortage.9.What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly about?A.Results of poaching. B.Reasons for killing elephants.C.Difficulties in migrating. D.Efforts to protect migration paths. 10.Why are collars applied by scientists?A.To discover the secret of migration.B.To track elephants with technology.C.To identify the population of elephants.D.To explore a new route for migration.11.What is the best title for the text?A.Say No to Ivory B.A Journey in AfricaC.Ready for the Move D.Technology in MigrationImagine a school where students are taught by the best teachers in every subject, regardless of location. Imagine a school where students could go on safe field trips to the Amazon rainforest or Everest base camp. Well, such schools are already being built: in virtual(虚拟的)reality.Last year, Optima Academy Online, an all-virtual school, delivered courses that aim to improve the hearts and train the minds of young people. These courses are of different levels, attracting 170 full-time students from all over Florida. In the progress of home-schooling, students use headsets for about three hours a day for formal lessons and then do course work independently with digital check-ins.Future versions(版本)of VR will doubtless be widely used in education, but the only questions are: for what purpose and at what speed? There are enough reasons to doubt whether VR schools represent the future of education. Sticking a child in their bedroom with a heavy VRheadset fastened to their face and no physical social interaction with other kids will fill many of them and their parents with horror.A recent report concluded that digital education could significantly improve the quality and equality of schooling systems. But if managed poorly, it could have the opposite effect, turning a digital divide into an educational one. There is growing evidence to suggest that is happening. In Mexico, only 24 percent of 15-year-old students in poor schools have access(使用)to a home computer for schoolwork compared with 87 percent in rich ones.Used properly, technology can be great for enabling self-motivated students to access learning resources and connect with fellow students and teachers all over the world, says Beeban Kidron, a member of the UK’s Digital Futures Commission. The trouble is that Edtech is too often seen as a shiny new toy that will solve all problems and save money rather than being viewed as a different way to learn, she adds.12.What can we learn about Optima Academy Online?A.It has been widely accepted.B.It holds faraway outdoor field trips.C.It provides various online courses.D.It requires parents to help with check-ins.13.What does paragraph 3 focus on about VR in education?A.The development. B.The concerns.C.The advantages. D.The popularity.14.Students in Mexico are mentioned to show________.A.Mexican schooling quality has been improvedB.local schooling systems are not fully developedC.technology access gaps may cause education inequalityD.family backgrounds shape people’s views on education15.What does Beeban Kidron think of digital education?A.It enriches learning. B.It’s irreplaceable.C.It needs improving. D.It’s undervalued.Smartwatches and fitness trackers (健身追踪器) have gained popularity recently. These tools can record your daily steps, heart rates, etc. 16 . If yes, it might be a sign that you’re addicted to your fitness tracker.17 . If you keep setting unrealistic daily goals that involve working out for too long, and if you begin to ignore friends and responsibilities to make time for your workout, then you’re most probably addicted to your fitness tracker. It’s a struggle to overcome the addiction to fitness trackers.18 . For example, the number in your smart watch showing how far you’ve come can give you a sense of achievement.Of course, failing to meet your daily goal can be discouraging. You might focus on your shortcoming rather than your progress. Another problem is that you might find yourself paying too much attention to the step number rather than how your body feels. 19 .Therefore, if you’re spending too much time looking at your smartwatch, limit your daily step count to a comfortable level. 20 . For example, concentratingon your hobbies or socializing with friends can be a great way to keep your mind on other things.A.How can you tell whether you’re addicted to your fitness tracker?B.Actually this addiction to step count can be risky, mentally and physically. C.Don’t overuse your smartwatch.D.However, do you find yourself checking your steps and heart rates too often? E.After all, reaching a daily step count can be so appealing.F.Besides, you can find other things to do that don’t involve checking your fitness tracker.G.It doesn’t covey what you’re reall y feeling.二、完形填空(本大题共1小题)It all began on a cold, rainy day.Sarah, a poor single mother, was struggling to make ends meet. Since last year, Natalie, 15, hasbeen taking lost or thrown — away fishing nets and rope and transforming them into bracelets, rope art, mats, baskets and necklaces.Last year, Natalie was working on an assignment for her science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) class. As part of the assignment, she learned about “ghost nets”, which are fishing nets that have been left or lost in the ocean by people who fish.“They have huge effects on our environment. They can kill coral reefs and many animals,” said Natalie. “46 percent of the Pacific garbage is ghost gear.” The Great Pacific Garbage is a huge collection of trash floating in the Pacific Ocean betweenHawaiiandCalifornia.Natalie told her mom she wanted to do something to help. She got in touch with a handful of charities, including the Sea Protection Society and Coastal Action. After getting some shipments of ghost nets and rope from those organizations, Natalie, with the help of her family, started turning thediscardedgear into new artworks. “We've made bracelets, rope art, mats, baskets, and we've made necklaces, which also use beach glass in them,” she said. Natalie then started selling the artworks online, the crafty buying and selling website. She donated all her profits-minus a small sum of change to cover supplies — to the charities that donated fishing supplies to her. She's also been donating all the income from her non-profit business, called Nautical Waters, to charity. Natalie said she hoped to continue her passion for ocean life, with plans to study marine biology in university.4. How did Natalie help with ghost nets?A. By turning them into artworks.B. Countries all across the world are actively promoting their wilderness regions-such as mountains, Arctic lands, deserts, small islands and wetlands— to high-spending tourists. The attraction of these areas is obvious: by definition, wilderness tourism requires little or no initial investment. But that does not mean that there is no cost.Once a location is established as a main tourist destination, the effects on the local community are profound. Hill-farmers can make more money from foreign travellers than working in their fields. It is not surprising that many o£ them give up their farm-work. In some hill-regions, this has led to a serious decline in farm output and a change in the local diet, because there is lacking labour to maintain terraces and irrigation systems. The result has been that many people in these regions have turned to outside supplies of rice and other foods.InArcticand desert societies, year-round survival has traditionally depended on hunting animals and fish and collecting fruit over a ly short season. However, as some inhabitants become involved in tourism, they no longer have time to collect wild food; this has led to increasing dependence on bought food and stores. What should they do if these new sources of income dry up?The physical impact of visitors is another serious problem associated with the growth in adventure tourism. Much attention has focused on erosion along major roads, but perhaps more important are the forest destruction and impacts on water supplies arising from the need to provide tourists with cooked food and hot showers. In both mountains and deserts, slow-growing trees are often the main sources of fuel and water supplies may be limited through heavy use.8. Why are some countries promoting the wilderness regions to tourists?A. The wildness regions are accessible to tourists.B. The landscapes there are beautiful and unique.C. Developing tourism there doesn't need much investment.D. Lots of high-spending tourists prefer such remote regions.9. What is the effect of tourism on the local community?A. Many hill farmers have turned to outside supplies of foods.B. There is enough labour to maintain terraces and irrigation systems.C. Farm output there has increased and local diet has changed.D. The local people's new sources of income will dry up soon.10. Which might be the best title of the passage?A. The future of wilderness tourism.B. The impacts of wilderness tourism.C. The destruction of wilderness tourism.D. The disadvantages of wilderness tourism.11. If there is one more paragraph following the last paragraph, what will it talk about?A. The effects on local people.B. The solutions tothese problems.C. The choices of adventure tourists.D. The reasons for visiting remote areas.DTeens who have good, supportive relationships with their teachers enjoy better healthas adults, according to research published by an American research center.“This research suggests that improving students' relationships with teachers could have positive and long-lasting effects beyond just academic success," said Jinho Kim, a professor atKoreaUniversityand author of the study."Itcould also bring about healthimplicationsin the long run.”Previous research has suggested that teens' social relationships might be linked to health outcomes in adulthood. However, it is not clear whether the link between teen relationships and lifetime health is causal(因果的)-it could be that other factors, such as different family backgrounds, might contribute to both relationship problems in adolescence and to poor health in adulthood. Also, most research has focused on teens' relationships with their peers(同龄人), rather than on their relationships with teachers. To explore those questions further, Kim analyzed data on nearly 20,000 participants from the Add Health study, a national study in theU.S.that followed participants from seventh grade into early adulthood. The participant pool included more than 3,400 pairs of siblings(兄弟姐妹). As teens, participants answered questions, like “How often have you had trouble getting along with other students and your teachers?" As adults, participants were asked about their physical and mental health.Kim found that participants who had reported better relationships with both their peers and teachers in middle and high school also reported better physical and mental health in their mid-20s. However, when he controlled for family background by looking at pairs of siblings together, only the link between good teacher relationships and adult health remained significant. The results suggest teacher relationships are more important than previously realized and that schools should invest in training teachers on how to build warm and supportive relationships with their students. "This is not something that most teachers receive much training in," Kim said, “but it should be.”12. What does the underlined word “implications" in Paragraph 2 refer to?A. Recipes.B. Habits.C. Benefits.D. Risks.13. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?A. Poor health in adolescence.B. Limitations of the previous research.C. Teens' relationships with their peers.D. Factors affecting health in adulthood.14. What does Kim's research show?A. Good adult health depends on teens' good teachers.B. Good family background promises long-term adult health.C. Healthy peer relationships leads to students' academic success.D. Positive student-teacher relationship helps students' adult health.15. Where does this text probably come from?A. A health magazine.B. A medical report.C. A term paper.D. A family survey.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

Honestly speaking, they're one of those strange little destinations that I like to sniff out everywhere I go, much as other travelers head toward clothing stores, libraries, coffee shops or galleries. The greatest beauty of the grocery store –– whether it's a supermarket or a tiny shop –– is that it gives you a glimpse into what local people buy to cook their own meals. This offers clues into their lifestyles and preferences, and into the agricultural and cooking practices of the country. I stare at the strange fruits and vegetables, the seafood, the cheese, the spices, the bread, and oh, the chocolate...always the chocolate!Being the environmental nerd(呆子)I am, I like paying attention to packaging, which can reflect people's attitudes towards environmental protection. Italy, for example, has a habit of requiring customers to bag their fruits and vegetables in plastic for weighing, while Sri Lanka leaveseverything loose in bins. In Brazil, everything is prepackaged in a layer of plastic.People in grocery stores tend to be friendlier. They smile, say hello, and sometimes ask questions, which can lead to great conversations. I had a further discussion with a teenaged cashier in Sri Lanka, over which bag of crunchy(松脆的)mix to buy. He insisted that the one labeled “spicy” would be too hot for me, but I told him I was willing to risk it. He laughed and we ended up talking about my favorite Sri Lankan foods for ten minutes. It's interesting then to come home and look at one's own local grocery store through new eyes. What would a visitor think? What stands out, and what do the food displays say about us as a culture? You might be surprised by what you realize.4. According to the author, what is the key benefit of visiting foreign grocery stores?A. Learning to cook foreign dishes.B. Making friends with local people.C. Buying cheaper food and souvenirs.D. Knowing local people and the country.5. What does the author show by mentioning some countries in paragraph 3?A. People's special lifestyles.B. People's shopping habits.C. People's environmental awareness.D. People's packaging methods.6. What can we infer from paragraph 4?A. Sri Lankans know a lot about food.B. Grocery stores are good social places.C. Grocery stores vary in different countries.D. Sri Lankans like to give strangers suggestions.7. Which of the following shows the structure of text? (P: paragraph)A. B.C. D.CPut your hand over your heart and sit very still. You may notice that the sound of your heartbeat is similar to the beat of a drum. Your heart starts beating before you are born and continues throughout your life. For this reason, the beating of a drum stands for the rhythm of life for many people around the world.InGhana, a country inAfrica, many schools use drums instead of bells to show the beginning and ending of class. Through the drum, the children ofGhanaalso learn about their history and culture. They hear old stories passed on through the music of the drum. The stories of the drum also teach children games, rules and lessons about behavior. For thousands of years inAfrica, drums have been used to tell stories of daily life and history. Drums told the coming of a king, the start of a war, or the birth of a child. They also allowed people to share messages. But how does a drum tell a story?InWest Africa, the most common drum used for communication is called a “talking drum”. By making higherorlower drum sounds, the drummer can make the drum “talk”.In many African languages, words go up and down in pitch (高音) when they are spoken, almost like a song. Depending on the pitch or tone (音调), the same sound can have many different meanings. For example, when spoken with two low tones, the African word “ilu” means “drum”. When spoken with one high and one low tone, “ilu” means “town”.Drum language works in the same way. Just as in spoken language, the word “ilu” has different meanings depending on how it’s drummed. When “ilu” is drummed with two beats using low tones, the word means “drum”. When “ilu” is drummed with two beats using one high and one low tone, it means “town”.Drummers create “words” to build ideas, sentences and stories. The next time you hear a song, listen for the heartbeat within the music. Can you hear the story of the drum?8. The first paragraph mainly tells us________.A. drums beat like our heartsB. drums have a long historyC. drums are widely used in the worldD. drums are important for many people worldwide9. From the text, we learn that inGhanadrums________.A. are not as useful as beforeB. teach children a lot of thingsC. help bring the war to an endD. are used in class by teachers10. The example of the African word “ilu” is used to show________.A. how a word can have different soundsB. how to speak African languagesC. how a drum tells storiesD. how to beat a drum11. What would be the best title for the text?A. Know the history of the drumB. Listen to the story of the drumC. Beat the drum of lifeD. Love me, love my drumDThe World Wildlife Fund (WWF) says more than half of the world’s wildlife population has been lost, whichthe conservation group says has placed the health of the planet at risk. The WWF recently released its 10th Flagship Living Planet Report. The group warns the condition of the world'sanimals is worse than its earlier reports showed, indicating worldwide action is needed. The WWF is worried about the loss of and damage to Earth’s environment. The report provides information about more than 10,000 animal populations from 1970 to 2010. These populations are called “vertebrate species,” or animals with backbones — like fish, birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles. The report shows these populations have dropped by 52 percent in just 40 years. It warns freshwater species have fallen by 76 percent, which is almost twice the loss of land and ocean species. Most of these losses are in the tropics, with the biggest drop inLatin America.Marco Lambertini, the WWF’s International Director-General said, “This is about losing natural habitats. This is aboutconvertingforests, grasslands, and wetlands into agriculture mainly, and it is about unsustainable use of wildlife. Illegal hunting has been actually increasing over the last 10 years, which definitely a driving force for extinction, particularly of large species.”The report also notes what it calls the world’s “Ecological Footprint”, that is, the effect of human activities on the planet. Mr. Lambertini says there has been an increase in carbon dioxide gases and the pouring of nitrogen into oceans and rivers from fertilizers used in agriculture, which certainly cannot continue.“We are consuming on average every year about the equivalent of about 1.5, one and a half times the resources available to the planet. That means we are cutting trees more quickly than they can be restored. We are fishing the oceans more quickly than fishing stocks can reproduce, and we are emitting in the atmosphere more CO2than the natural systems can actually absorb, which is clearly not sustainable.”Mr. Lambertini warns climate change affects almost everyone on the planet and that whole species may disappear if the world does not reduce the effects of humans on the climate.12. According to the passage, what kind of species faces the biggest drop in population?A. Land and ocean species.B. Animals with backbones.C. Freshwater species inLatin America.D. Freshwater species in the tropics.13. All the following can contribute to the loss of world’s wildlife population EXCEPT ________.A. turning wildlife habitats into agriculture land.B. making sustainable use of wildlife.C. hunting illegally.D. emitting CO2 gases and pouring nitrogen.14. Which does the underlined word “converting” in paragraph 4 mean?A. Conserving.B. Conveying.C. Exchanging.D. Transforming.15. It can be inferred from the passage that _______.A. Marco is much concerned about human’s current behaviors towards wildlife.B. what the planet provides now can satisfy human’s sustainable development.C. more than half of the world’s wildlife population has been lost.D. if humans reduce the effects on the climate, the whole species will not disappear.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
