These days, green buildings mean more than just the color of the paint. They can also mean environmentally friendly houses, factories, and offices.

The green building means “making an effort of a building to the land less ”. Green buildings can lower energy and water use. Also, the buildings are often near bus stops, the underground, and other places, so that people can drive their cars less. That could be good for the environment, because cars use lots of oil and cause pollution. Green buildings don 't destroy the forest, either.

On the surface of the green building, there are solar panels. The solar panels take in the sun 's energy and change it into electricity. The lights in the green building can be off by themselves when people leave the rooms. The building has lots of windows. This makes people use the sun for light instead of house lights during the day. Water can be reused in the green building. The building takes water from the rains, and uses it in the toilets.

Now, not everyone lives in the green building. But we can make ordinary homes greener. We can turn off the tap when we 're not using it and turn off lights when we 're not in the rooms.

We hope that green buildings will become common in the future, because they are good for the environment.
