三、阅读理解(16分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

A

I lived most of my life in the city, but I visited some rural(偏远的)areas when I was in the seventh grade. There I discovered the worst life in the world. What shocked me most was the unnecessary deaths of children and pregnant(怀孕)women. I was told that pregnancy means half-dead half-alive, so it is normal for pregnant women to die. I doubted that.

At university, I majored in sociology (社会学) which guided me to solve such problems. After graduation, I decided to become a volunteer. So I joined a group to help communities bring their own development and change their behavior for a better life.

My greatest achievement was that I helped people in one of the villages I visited in Singida to build a clinic(诊所). They had none and the nearest clinic was about 50 kilometers away. So lots of sick people took the risk of not going to a clinic because there was no transport and almost no road. The District Council provided building materials, a nurse and a doctor for our group, but at first I was afraid that I would not get people’s trust and government support. But finally I managed to encourage the villagers to find out by themselves the problem they were facing and decide on what measures to take. This project was extended to five regions, 10 districts, and 60 villages.

I am still thinking about the other villages that we have not visited. Some time later I will set up my own project, maybe with interested partners to build not only clinics but also roads and economies for poor areas. I know resources are available around all those areas; however, people with skills and who are committed must do something.
