V olunteering(志愿者)

The volunteering spirit has spread among the Chinese people in recent years, especially among young people. V olunteering is of tremendous benefits to both those in need and society Take the Wenchuan Earthquake as an example. Hundreds of thousands of volunteers play an active role in Wenchuan quake-hit areas. And they contribute daily necessaries, offer medical help and psychological help to the disaster-relief work. Besides, volunteering would be beneficial to the volunteers themselves. Getting involved in volunteering, volunteers will be exposed to a new environment, and they can learn how to work well in a team, how to improve their interpersonal skills and organizational skills, all of which are critical for their professional growth. As a college student, I sincerely hope that everyone would join the volunteering work. It is not only good to our society, but also a chance for us to grow and to learn.

V ocational education or college education ? (职业教育)The number of people who take the college entrance examination has been decreasing these years. Some people consider vocational education an advantage to job-hunting, while others argue that a college diploma is more important. ln my opinion, college education is more advisable or most people. First, college education is systematic and students can learn a lot in many aspects. Unlike vocational, which always focuses on just one job skill, college education enables students to develop different po-tentials.15lSecond, to obtain a higher degree, such as a master’s degree, one has to go through college education to a bachelor’s degree first. In a society where any job skill may become outdate-ed quickly with the appearance of new technologies, the limitations of vocational education prove even more serious. Only college education can prepare us for future challenges.

Computers in Students’ Dorms(电脑)On many dorms, it has become a prevalent phenomenon for one college student to possess a PC or a notebook. Meanwhile, a host of parents or teachers encourage and advocate college students to use computers in their life and study. Taking a look around, we can find a great many students and dorms like this. A number of individuals prefer or favor the phenomenon “One student, One PC”. In their eyes, studying with the help of computers will enhance students’ over-all development and competitiveness, because rich information on the Internet will enrich their knowledge and broaden their horizons. Even so, others hold a different view that using computers may carry some risks. First, buying PC calls for plenty of money; however, the quality of learning is not always as satisfactory as expected. Then, what worries many teachers is that students’ academic learning may be affected negatively by a variety of computer games.

By and large, I am convinced that the advantages derived from the popularity of computers far outweigh the disadvantages. Without this machine, it is impossible for students to have more opportunities to acquire the knowledge beyond their campuses. Therefore, students are advisable to use the PC in a sensible way.
