Why I Came to College?
Why have I choose to attend college? Is the four-year academic life worthwhile? I have put these questions to myself at many times in the past two years. It is impossible to sit in the classroom listening to the lectures without being distracted for a moment by the fatter wallets carried by the high-school graduates who have made a big fortune. It is impossible to stay up very late preparing for the examinations without wondering for a moment whether I made a wise choice as a college man. After pondering these questions on many occasions, I have finally reached the conclusion that college education is something I truly want to and it is worthwhile.
Admittedly , my parents did influence my opinions about college I can still hear my father saying," Go to college, my boy." They were persistent but not demanding and respected my decision. And I did realize some disadvantages of continuing college education, which would cost me too much personal happiness as well as a great sum of money. But I attended college for every reason other than finance.
I attended college because I enjoy learning and
gaining knowledge. I remember as I proceeded further through high school into my junior and senior years, I became genuinely interested in Chemistry, Physics and Maths. I felt that I wanted to continue to study these areas and that I would not be content to simply end my educational career with high school and enter the working world so soon. It was then that I began to recognize in myself a strong drive to obtain knowledge. The need to continue learning felt increasingly strong as my high school career was drawing to a close and the decision to attend college seemed a natural one.
I did not choose to attend merely because I feel college is a plane which helps one to seek scientific truth. It also helps one to become a well-rounded person. With courses and lectures concerning different fields of study available, and the best brains in the country on the campus, it throws me into contact with a rich variety of society and political ideas, helping to expend my horizons and widen my outlooks.
I do not want to conceal my material motive, apart from academic and philosophical ones. In today's world, a college education has become almost essential if one
wishes to compete in the job market. In the next several years, this trend will surely continue, with a Bachelor's degree becoming almost indispensable one wishes to find a desirable career. I felt that attending college was a practical and necessary step which I took to ensure a secure future for myself.
Why have I chosen to attend college? Sometimes I'm unsure of the exact reason myself. I'm sure, however, the desire to obtain knowledge pushed me toward college. For this reason, I never mind spending countless beautiful nights on paperworks; I never consider myself unhappy, miserable and unfairly burdened, and I never think college is a waste of time and money.。
