Second, we make a very conservative assumption that we are looking for a life form that is pretty well like us, since if it differs radically from us we may well not recognise it as a life form, quite apart from whether we are able to communicate with it. (剑9 Test 1 Passage 2)句子结构分析:这句话的主干是we make a very conservative assumption that…that…since if…whether…。
二、并列复合句:由两个或两个以上的分句通过一些并列连词(but、and、not only…but also…、neither…nor…、yet、while、so等),构成的复合句。

3.题目:Dung beetles were brought to Australia by the CSIRO over a fourteen-year period.【yes】-原文:Between 1968 and 1982,the CSIRO imported insects from about 50 different species of dung beetle, from Asia, Europe and Africa, aiming to match them to different climatic zones in Australia.-分析:1968至1982为14年,题目和原文相符合,故答案为yes。

Although Gutman admits that forced separation by sale was frequent,he shows that the slaves’ preference, revealed most clearly on plantations where sale was infrequent, was very much for stable monogamy.

常见可表指代功能的词有:the〔可表特指〕、this/that、these/those、such、it/they/them和定语从句中常用的which/that等。
〔注意:此处仅列出笔者认为较常用的〕例题:C12-Test 5-Passage 1-Cork-Question 6-13题型:complete the notes belowChoose ONE WORD ONL Y from the passage for each answerComparison of aluminium screw caps and cork bottle stoppersAdvantages of aluminium screw capsare 7_____________ to produceare 8_____________ to useAdvantages of cork bottle stopperssuit the 9_____________of quality productscork forests aid 12_____________----------审----------题---------分----------割----------线-----------原文如下:引用局部自倒数第二段和最后一段The result has been a gradual yet steady move first towards plastic stoppers and, more recently,to aluminium screw caps. These substitutes are cheaper to manufacture and,in the case of screw caps, more convenient for the user. The classic cork stopper does have several advantages, however. Firstly, its traditional image is more in keeping with that of the type of high quality goods with which it has long been associated. Secondly-and more importantly-the cork is a sustainable product that can be recycled without difficulty. Moreover, cork forests are a resource which support local biodiversity and prevent desertification in the regions where they are planted.

Research completed in 1982 found that in the United States soil erosion……C3T2P2A reduced the productivity of farmland by20 per centB was almost as severe as in India and ChinaC was causing significant damage to 20 per cent of farmlandD could be reduced by converting cultivated land to meadow or forest原文:The United States, where the most careful measurements have been done, discovered in 1982 that about one-fifth of its farmland was losing topsoil at a rate likely to diminish the soil’sproductivity. The United States discovered in 1982 that about one-fifth of its farmland was losingtopsoil。
2. 题目:Paragraph B How the port changes a city’s infrastructure C2T2P3原文:Port cities become industrial, financial and service centers and political capitals because of their water connections and the urban concentration which arises there and later draws to itrailway, highways and air routes. Water transport means cheap access, the chief basis of all port cities. Many of the world’s biggest cities, for example, London, New York, Shanghai, Istanbul,Buenos Aries, Tokyo, Jakarta, Calcutta, Philadelphia and San Francisco began as ports—that is, with land-sea exchange as their major function—but they have since grown disproportionately inother respects, so that their port functions are no longer dominant. They remain different kinds of places from non-port cities and their port functions account for that difference. How the port changes a city’s inf rastructure这个小标题。
1.Halfway across the room, a small pistol in his hand, stood a man.
A small pistol in his hand, a man stood halfway across the room. 其中,a small pistol in his hand 是一个独立主格结构,修饰主语a man.
2.They do not seem to like one another very much, neither are they too keen on conventional people.
They are neither too keen on conventional people.
3.Down came the “white only” notices in buses, hotels, trains, restaurants, sporting events, rest rooms and on park benches that once could be found everywhere throughout the South.结构:全句有2个谓语动词:came,could be。
The “white only” notices … came down.

文章的题材这次的剑桥12,出现了很多我们机经早就存在的类似的篇章,比如the lost city,the benefits of being bilingual等,还有剑桥系列出过的类似场景比如:tortoises,the history of glass,music and emotions等。
1. These misconceptions do not remain isolated but become incorporated into a multifaceted, but organised, conceptual framework, making it and the component ideas, some of which are erroneous, more robust but also accessible to modification.
1. multifaceted:
2. component:
3. erroneous:错误的
4. robust:
5. incorporated:
我们该来分析一下句子结构:句子主语是These misconceptions,并列谓语do not remain ……but become,其中有not……but 句式,宾语是isolated,incorporated into…… framework。
2. Trainers of captive dolphins and small whales often remark on their animals’ responsiveness to being touched or rubbed, and both captive and free ranging cetacean individuals of all species (particularly adults and calves, or members of the same subgroup) appear to make frequent contact.
1. captive:
3. cetacean:
4. calve:
a. Trainers of captive dolphins and small whales often remark on their animals’ responsiveness to being touched or rubbed.
句子主语是Trainers,谓语是remark on,宾语是their animals’ responsiveness,to being 修饰their animals’ responsiveness.
b. And both captive and free ranging cetacean individuals of all species (particularly adults and calves, or members of the same subgroup)
appear to make frequent contact.
句子主语是aptive and free ranging cetacean individuals,谓语是appear,to do作宾补,括号里的文字就表强调。
3. Evidently, however, the blind not only figured out meanings for each line of motion, but as a group they generally came up with the same meaning at least as frequently as did sighted subjects.
1. the+adj.
2. came up with the same meaning 等同于 have consensus on sth.
3. not only…but(also):不仅……而且……
She not only plays well, but also writes music.
4. as…as…结构:
They want peace as much as we do.
