When a correction is submitted via AMDH, the Corrections Specialist for that discipline will manage the submission, including working with content developers/producers, and compositors to complete the print corrections and updates to non-print text components, such as uPDFs, eText 1.0 and ePub3, as well as ensure corrections to all identified digital products are communicated to the LiveOps team. Once the corrections have been completed, the updated files will be versioned into the archive repository.Corrections Specialist responsibilities are divided by discipline, source code and region. Content Developers/ProducersThe main editorial contact who is responsible for gathering, submitting, and approving corrections.Inventory ManagerThe individual responsible for scheduling and releasing reprint BBDs (Bound Book Dates) and quantities.Manufacturing BuyersThe manufacturing buyer is responsible for the scheduled reprints at the print vendors. CompositorsThe compositor makes text and art corrections and creates new PDF files of the corrected pages for the printer. The Compositor may also update non-print text components, such as uPDFs, eText 1.0, and ePub3.Preparing Errata for SubmissionWhat is an error of fact?An error of fact is an egregious error that, left uncorrected, negatively affects the accuracy of a passage, diagram, chart, or other text or art component. Errors of fact include the following categories:•Company reputation impact•Significant impact to sales•Necessary for accuracy of the pedagogy•Incorrect/missing data•Errors in mathematical statements•Incorrect or improperly labeled art•Errors in reference•Spelling and typographical errors•Recent changes in the field that can be easily correctedWhat is not an error of fact?The following categories are not considered errors of fact:•Preferential word choice•Style/format changes, such as changes to page layout and coloring•Major revisions/rewrites to text•Changes to Acknowledgement, Dedication, author photos, etc.Please note: Corrections that are not errors of fact will only be considered if true errors of fact are also being corrected and should be kept to a minimum. Authorizing such corrections is left to the Content Developer/Producer for that title. The Content Developer/Producer needs to carefully consider schedule and budgetary interests before submitting corrections that are not true errors of fact.Corrections cannot increase or decrease a title’s page count, as doing so would disrupt the proper flow of the rest of the book’s signatures (i.e., the subsections of a book’s printed pages). For further explanation, please speak to your managing Content Developer/Producer.Correction costsCorrection management costs and composition costs are charged to a project code by discipline specifically for reprint corrections, not the original project code.Editorial Stage: Compiling, Approving, Submitting Errata Compiling and ApprovingIt is the responsibility of the Content Developer/Producer to gather and approve corrections from the author and other sources (e.g., reviewers, professors, students, etc.) and to prepare them for submission. The Content Developer/Producer should first submit a content request the latest PDFs via (AMDH) for review and to markup corrections, please refer to the Content Request Submission Guide.Please note: the Correction Specialists will NOT routinely solicit corrections from the Content Developer/Producer.SubmittingAll errata are to be submitted electronically via AMDH please refer to the Correction Request Submission Guide.Corrections should be submitted in any of the following forms:1.PDF pages “marked up” with Adobe Comment Tools (preferred method)see Example 1.2.PDF Scan pages with corrections marked. If submitting PDF scans of legible, hand-marked pages, keep comments away from the edge of page see Example 2.3.We accept corrected hi-res pdfs. Please make sure to provide markup for proofing andan archive of layout and images also. Corrections done at the compositor from the first print Production Team for a future reprint need to be channeled through the Content Lifecycle Management department. This will avoid confusion for future reprints.Please note: Paper submissions will not be accepted.While the Corrections Specialist maintains the final and most-up-to-date records of what corrections she/he has managed, it is strongly recommended that the ContentDeveloper/Producer maintain accurate records of what they’ve submitted for corrections for future reference and legacy purposes.Submission checklist:✓Create markups or scan markups to create PDF document per ISBN submission✓Review PDF for clarity and readability✓Submit AMDH Correction Submission Form, including any split/editions and supplement information✓Post PDF to AMDHElectronic markup, created using Adobe PDF markup and comment toolsScanned, handwritten markup saved as a PDF document. Example also illustrates corresponding page information for a title/volume split that runs in common with this page, ensuring that corrections are made in both titles.Reprint Stage - Coordinating Corrections and Prepping Files for PrinterThe Reprint ScheduleInventory plans the reprint schedule based on current and projected future demand, with slightly more reprints occurring before fall and spring semesters. These projections, however, are not always accurate, since demand may vary from week to week (e.g., a large, unexpected adoption will cause a title to reprint when it wasn’t even on the schedule a week before).If a title has corrections, the Correction Specialist will send a copy of the submitted markup to the compositor with an email detailing specific job information. The compositor will send hi-res single pdfs to the Correction Specialist, who is responsible for reviewing them against the original markup and approving them or sending them back for further corrections. If the Content Developer/Producer prefers to review the updated pages, she/he may indicate this on the AMDH Form.The updated corrected files are incorporated into the products archive in the archive repository along with updated one-to-one related online derivatives, such as uPDFs, eText 1.0, and ePub3. There are instances where titles are called up too quickly and there is not enough time for the corrections process. In this scenario, it is typically too late to begin the corrections cycle with the compositor if the corrections are not already underway.
