(W=Waiter, G=Guest)
Mr. and Mrs. Smith are visiting Xi’an. They want to reserve a table for dinner. Waiter: The Oriental Restaurant. May I help you?
G: I’d like to reserve a table for four.
W: For what time, sir?
G: 6:30 this evening.
W: I am terribly sorry, sir. All the tables are reserved until 7:30.
G: Why is this?
W: Well, sir, a big group is arriving at six. Would a reservation for 7:30 be too late? G: Yes, I’m afraid so.
W: May I suggest our coffee shop, sir? I am sure they will have tables available. G: All right. I’ll try the coffee shop, sir? Could you transfer my call?
W: Sure. Please hold on, sir.I’ll put you right through.
G: Thank you very much.
W: Coffee shop, may I help you?
G: Yes, I want a table for four tonight at 6:30.
W: Very well, sir. A table for four at 6:30. May I know your name, please?
G: Mr. Smith.
W: Thank you for calling, Mr. Smith. I have reserved a table in your name.
G: Thank you very much. Good-bye.
2. Ordering a Meal
Mr. Barton has made a reservation in the restaurant and now he is in the restaurant.

Waitress: Good evening, Sir. Have you got a reservation?
