The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2010 officially opened Saturday morning in Boao, Hainan. Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping made a theme speech at the opening ceremony. Major emerging countries including Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey and China were called E11 economies for the first time in a report for the BFA. The report said E11 countries have made important contributions to world economic stability and recovery in 2009.

China's trade deficit reached $7.24b in March, the country's first monthly trade deficit in 6 years since April 2004, the General Administration of Customs said Saturday. China exported $112.11b of goods and services in March, up 24.3% year on year, while imports surged 66% year-on-year to $119.35b. Taking the first 3 months together, China still posted a trade surplus of $14.49b, sharply down 76.7% from the same period last year.
