1. 过去进行时的用法：
（1）含义：表示在过去某一时刻或某一段时间内正在进行或发生的动作。
（2）过去进行时的构成：was / were + v . - ing
说明：第一人称单数和第三人称单数用was，其余用were。
（3）过去进行时的用法：
(4) 基本句式: 肯定句：“主语+was / were + v – ing +其他”
eg : He was sleeping at that time .
否定句：“主语+was / were / not +动词-ing +其他”
eg : He wasn’t sleeping at that time .
疑问句：“was / were +主语+动词-ing +……？”
回答：Yes 主语+was /were . No . 主语+was / were not .
eg : Was he sleeping at that time ?
Yes , he was . No , he wasn’t .
（5）过去进行时与一般过去时的区别：
2. in front of 与in the front of的区别：
(1) My sister is sitting _______ the classroom to see the sun.
(2) My sister is sitting _______ the classroom to read English with her classmates.
3. when 与while引导的时间状语从句的区别：过去进行时还用在由When , while 引导的从句中，具体区别。
①用when引导的状语从句表示时间，说明一个劝作发生时，另一个动作正在进行，也可表示正在进行某一动作时，另一动作发生了。
②用while引导的从句一般用进行时，表示正在进行某个动作时，发生了另一个动作，这时主句用一般过去时。
